Plz SOMEONE HELP mE!!
i'm in the middle of my song and cubase started to pops and clicks all the time!! i've already saw the VST Performance and it's on 90-98% of my cpu power!! i don't know why is happening this because my computer is a PENTIUM 4 1.6 512 mb 60gig and a Audiophlie 2496 + Soundblaster Live running WIN XP.....
i have running: 1 absynth, 1 scorpion, 1 kontakt (using 5 samples in 5 different channels), 1 PlastCZ, 1 junglist and Reverbs in each channel, a compressor in the master and some distortion on each synth....
PS: I've already tried to put the latency of my soundcard Lower and Higher and I've already tried to disable the Soundblaster
WHAT CAn I DO!!!??????

Check if you have any programms that run in the system. Stuff like screensavers and Antiviruses harm your performance. Anyway check out this excellent site www.musicxp.com
Hope that helps

Space Ninja, good suggestion. If (for example) I am running a file sharinf client while using Logic, it hangs up the interface for seconds. I put that stuff on another box now to free up resources.
Check your output drivers. if you are using ASIO, make sure there is nothing else (like wavelab) using the same driver. the programs may be competing for resources.
((gets more coffee))
Defrag your disks. sometimes a hard drive can keep up, but when a lot is going on it can stutter if the files are fragmented. also make sure you have the UDMA cable in the right spot and your BIOS is picking up the high speed drive properly.
2. throw your swap disk on another disk drive or disable it. Giving your swap drive a whole extra bus for throughput will help you when mixdown is imminent.
increase the preroll, but you said you already did this.
check your resources and slim down your services. I have a bookmark at work, I will post up detailing all the services and how much you need them. check your idle (system idle processes, should be at the top when you sort by cpu usage or time). high % on idle is a good thing. it should go to the crapper when you hit play.
last, but maybe this should have been first, check the hard drive caching on your system. in 98 there is an option under performance, this is no longer there in 2K, don't know about XP (waiting for 2k3 server unless XP has perfect MIDI...) Get a freeware proggie called cacheman and you can manipulate your registry a little.
Lastly there is a part of the system called the "quantum" or time slice. (another link buried at work) you can change this value by either selecting optimize performance for "background services" or "applications" but the values entered here are only the tip of the iceberg. basically you *can* adjust the amount of time the CPU gives to applications in the foreground and the background but beeeee careful, this setting can also hose rewire and/or make your system worse or much better, so backup your registry just in case you do feel daring.
Post up your results; I had severe popping in Cubase VST and SX, until I changed drivers with the other progs I use at the same time. Been using Logic much more lately but I haven't noticed the hiccupping at all.
Good luck sir!

There could be several problems that couses this tik to appear and make the cpu performance crazy.
i had those problem.
the main problem is 1 fu**ing VST or plug-in that could make your system go wild on cpu and other problem that are not to this issue.
my recomendation is to install very few VST & Plug-ins, only those you are really like and really using them.
but now after installing so many plugins and VST's, u ask yourself how to find the specific one...
well, the best way is to start all over again and reformat all the hard drives and get the 'Ghost' utility who make a copy of your system.
that way you install your favorite plugins and 1 by one and after each installation you make a "Ghost' copy.
when u find an instrument who makes your system crazy you reload the "ghost' copy and you delete the plugin and never install them again on your system.
summery : well it's a long process but worth every 1% cpu that you get to use.
