Can someone please explain to me what is meant by this (copy -> paste from the operation manual):

"The Dissolve Part function on the MIDI menu has two separate uses:
• When you work with MIDI parts (on MIDI channel “Any”) containing
events on different MIDI channels.
Dissolve Part separates the events according to MIDI channel."

Don't mind about the second function (it's about dissolving out of pitch). I know what the dissolve function is all about. What I wonder is

<<how is it possible to have more than one channel on a MIDI track. And what is it good for?>>

Probably a lot, but I haven't done any research about the practical use of channels, yet... I think I've missed out something fundamental here.

I think it could be useful if you import General MIDI (GM) files onto a MIDI track. These files have notes on several MIDI channels on one MIDI track and with dissolve parts you can tease the information for different instruments (for example, drums are on channel 10) apart and route them to separate intruments, like a bass-synth and a drum-sampler, instead of sending all the information to one GM module. You could also do this with the Logical Editor.
