A few weeks ago a friend of mine found out that if you put your timeline on the start of a bar and then zoom in extremely on the starts of each part, that some parts don't start on the beat, but a bit after it. Maybe it's because of using <ctrl>-<d> to often or because of some other reason, but i found that it really affects the tightness of the timing of beats and other events.

Is this something that everyone accept me knows ? And if so, are there any working habits that can prevent these timing problems ?

Put all your audio in parts and make sure they start exactly on a beat-division before duplicating.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

begin and end
also some versions fuck up with ctrl+D on the micro timing and after few loops its allready noticeable
so i ctrl+D sometime inside the 16 bars but when duplicate major stuff i use alt+drag , this one never fail , as well ctrl+D with good install           www.sattelbattle.com

ctrl+d is to blame
make sure your clips are accurate before duplicating

Thanks for the tips ! I'll check the microtiming from now on. The strange thing is that i only use the scissors tool in 'snap to grid' mode. Are there more of these hidden bugs that screw up your music that any of you knows of ?

it's not a bug actually. usually happens when there's a note which extends just a bit over the bar's end.

also, i had issues with the quantize and "magnet" functions...
Be sure that your quantize is not in 1/64 or 1/32 when duplicating or moving elements

Hey Boobytrip: are u getting this issues when using "exported loops"?? Or also with loops from CD??

Every export I do here with Cubase SX 3 has a tiny tail(something that is not supose to happen), that if not cut will end in microtiming fuckups.           LOADING...

Aye, it's mostly with exported loops. And indeed, these loops have a tiny tail (grrr). However, i found out that it also happened to kicks and bass-notes that i placed on the grid with snap turned on, and that were <ctrl>-<d>'d throughout the track. I fixed the timing of a track yesterday and it is a difference of night and day. Always nice if a simple discovery has great results

This is the answer. There isn't a bug in Cubase, it's really just doing what it thinks you're asking it to do, so make sure you know [/b]exactly[/b] what you're asking it to do! Cubase works with sample-accuracy in all windows, so you need to be working at sample-accuracy too. Always check your region start and end points by eye and use exact bar-length audio parts wherever possible. Remember that <ctrl>d duplicates something EXACTLY, so if it's not an exact number of beats long, subsequent duplications will become progressively more out of sync.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
