I want to record a vst (z3ta+) to audio while I play it in cubase sl3. The reason is that I use a patch with free running lfo`s and if i record a midi-track instead of an audio-track it would sound different each time i play or bounce it. If I recorded it live I could be responsive to the free running lfo`s while playing and have the desired result fixed as an audio-file.

I couldn`t find a solution or an informative thread...

any ideas?

thanx in advance - martyn

Martyn,

I think you wish to do the same thing I wanted on Cubase when I started using: to be able to send the sound coming from a midi channel (vst, or rewire from other sequencer like Reason) directly to an audio track in real time. The idea was to press play in the midi channel and press record enable in the audio track and then copy the midi channel sound in real time while played to the recording audio track. I was surprised when people told me that the only way to do it, was to solo the midi channel and export each of them one by one. Such an important and easy task seems to be forgotten by Steinberg.

Enertopia s sugestion might be the only solution to our pronlem. I still haven t tried, but by what I ve read thats exactly the concept behind this plug in.

I would like to do the same thing with my TI, it is possible, just bounce down live, mark that option on cubase's export audiomixdown window.
select real-time, you can do whatever you wanna do and It will recorded that way, that's is the only way to record the vocoder with the TI without external software.

you can also use reaktor for recording live.
Create a new ensemble in a reaktor instance that you put into the insert chain of the vst you want to record.
Then delete the standard instrument and insert a recorder. (right click, in case you dont wonder ...)
Be sure to adjust the recorders bufferlength.
And also check the routing , channels 1+2 need to be routed into the recorder and out to outputs again.

Then press record in reaktors recorder and start in cubase and record your stuff. you can do this as many times as like. the buffer will be overwritten each time. If you found something you like, then save it in the recorders settings page.

... and have fun !

i do it regulary. i use pulsar sound card and with the scope fusion platform i just conect my cubase out put into the input back again so everything heard on cubase comes back to the input channel.

you can also do it with soundforge or wavelab.

different methods on different sound cards... but basiclly BASIC got it right... you need to connect your sequencers output to your card or sequencer input. on creamware cards its realy easy . asio out to in (i think its called destination) on rme`s u just hit the ctrl button and press on the chanels name. (in the mixer section of the rme) and on other cards you`ll just have to find out yourself i guess.
but you got the idea.

if u dig deep enough u just might reach the sky...
