All of my Cubase SX 3 projects loaded perfectly fine in Cubase 4. I continued to use Cubase SX 3 for a while on my laptop to sketch out songs then transfered them to my studio computer with Cubase 4 and never had any issues.

A matter of taste.I like all the progs i listed above,but my workflow is better in Live.
Do like flow when i'm working.
And i never use the buildt in stuff
