Hi all,
I started making music myself with Cubase 5 (now Cubase 6, I qualified for the 20 Euro Grace Period Update) just like 2 month ago and have a question:
I have been watching video tutorials all over the internet, and no one ever uses the native cubase EQ, compressor or any other Cubase plug-ins for that matter. So my question is this:
Is the built-in Cubase EQ really that bad? Are the third-party plug-ins really that much better? Is it really worth the money to buy all this expensive stuff when I already have it all with Cubase? Same goes for the compressor, are other compressors really that much better?

Thanks for the answer, so the Cubase EQ is shit and that is why no one uses it. Good to know.
Of course I will try before I buy, however I am still in the learning process trying to handle the enormous complexity that is music production, and testing EQ`s adds even more complexity. Therefore, if you would have told me the Cubase EQ is at least OK I wouldnt even have bothered testing for now.

i dont think its shit ( at least the newer versions of cubase )
but when i compare it to the sonalksis sv 517 its just lacks something... maybe its the handling and not the quality.. but i always prefer 3rd party eq in cubase.
but most say the same thing for the flstudio parametric eq 1 and its the only eq i use in fl. http://www.landmark-recordings.com/

i am not so sure about your conclusion that the cubase eq is shit. the studio eq might be pretty decent. although i also use 3rd parties |

If you just started with production, i wouldn`t care about that. i use the cubase vintage compressor for sidechaining the bassline. Sometimes the cubase envelope shaper even for bass. learn how to do a proper mix and you will get good results even with the cubase eq.

Thanks again for the replies guys!
I did some testing after all, and I must say the differences are dramatic, particularly when it comes to compressors. And with EQ`s its much more about the handling like someone mentioned above, and in that department IMHO nothing beats the Fabfilter Pro-Q, for a noob like me thats the one where I get by far the best results because it is so easy to use and set customized curves.
So, its Fabfilter all the way for me, I really like their stuff, also their compressor, and its not terribly expensive like Waves or Sonnox.
