I wonder which of these sequencers people prefer to use on PC/Windows.. I use Cubase VST 3.70, but there's a big problem with that: it has MIDI timing problems - the notes are played with a slightly varying delay, and it makes drum sequences slightly blurred and not really synchronous.. especially when there're many MIDI tracks active. I've heard many people out there are using Cubase on Windows (BLT, Infected), but their tracks look perfectly synched... I'm confused.. Logic seems to be perfectly stable on the MIDI side, but it's hard to get used to its interface :) |

Well, we as infected used to work with cubase untill now the problem with the midi of cubase is that its not working good with usb. the new computers are not supporting ISA Cards. so, i use today program called Nuendo (steinberg) its quite the same as cubase and its working perfectly. BTW: i use the roland UM-4 mpu64 USB (midi4in4out) |

Well I have upgraded to VST5.01 which is a major step forward.. He He it kinda makes you treat wave files as if they were regular midi sequences... It's very easy and the possibilities are just unending.. I dunno about Logik coz never used it though have seen some using it and it's kool. Cakewalk is good - the only problem with it, and it's a major one in my point of view is the fact it's not a real 'REAL TIME' sequencer - you have to stop the track to make the changes applied. About the VST midi to audio sync - is very simple.. It's first has to do with the Soundcard you have - the better it is the less latency ( latency - time format that identifies what is the difference between midi and audio in your VST ) you'll get. To make all of this work synced - you'll have to go to Audio/System menu, and insert a number into the ' Midi to Audio delay ' paragraph till you fixed up the situation.
Cheers,
Yuli |

I'm using vst5.01 and I'm having some midi timing trouble...sometimes it's ok, sometimes it's not. However - I don't know if that has anything to do with my midisport2X2. Besides that - it's a great software. The interface is very intuitive and changes CAN be made in real time. |

I'll explain the problem in more detail. I'm talking about MIDI timing stability, with no respect to audio tracks. When I make a straight quantized hihat sequence with my sampler, and then record it to an audio track, I can see (under heavy zooming) that some notes go before the bars, some after, and the drift is quite random. It's very small, several milliseconds, and it often cannot be heard. But in complex repeating drum patterns with lots of MIDI activity going on it becomes noticeable and quite annoying :) especially with long delay lines. I consulted cubase.net, they say that's an issue and that's why Mac is more preferable as it allows for much more stable MIDI timing. I wonder how you people live with that :) or maybe it's mainly my configurations fault... Anyway, thanks for the feedback (Erez & Yuli). |

Well - as far as I know, windows me allows a greater midi timing resolution than 98 does. Maybe you should try it. Anyway - what you just described sounds like "audiophile" obsession to me. I say - If you can't hear it, don't let it bother you. |

Hey Ird,
Looks like you have some problems here. Problems with midi only shouldn't appear. Could you please point out your system to me? I mean which kind of a PC do you have, Midi interface, soundcard, etc.. You can do it through the email if you wish.
Cheers,
Yuli |

No IRD..i know where's your problem...
The bars are not adjusted to the grid cause of the quantization.
Look at your piano roll window and u can see 2 list box were it's written usually 16/16.
Put 32/32. |

I found out that after cleaning my system from unnecessary processes :) like antiviral shit, etc etc, MIDI timing in Cubase became MUCH more stable. I suspected something like this :) If you experience timing problems, try to do the same thing.

My friend has been experimenting with Nuendo and I found the enviroment a lot like Pro-Tools meets Cubase. Latency was an issue.. It has the power to import Cubase files but unfortunately not export.. which was a drama when he needed to work off a different puta.
Had problems with Cakewalk so I never bothered..
MAC world I would defintely go Logic.. and I have experienced ppl who are using it live off a G3 laptop.. in a studio enviroment I have found it to be really stable but I don't like the editing of audio files especially when you want to get in real close.. |
