Hi Marcello,
The easiest way of displaying the automation lane you're looking for is as follows:
Activate the plugin's 'W' button - this puts the plugin in Automation Write mode. Then play the track and move the control you want to automate. Turn off 'W' and turn on 'R' (read) so the plugin will respond to the automation you write once you have the lane open. Now right-click on the track name in the track list and select "Show Used Automation".
If this doesn't work it's possible that the plugin doesn't support VST automation - check the plugin's manual for details. Cubase SX cannot automate DirectX plugins.

reason for abandoning DirectX in Cubase 4 is that the DirectX plugins do not declare their latency to cubase and therefore cannot be integrated into the time calculations for latencies compensation. Or at least that's what Steinberg said.....

OK, Im fine now.. DirectX has low latency and if steinberg says it sucks than it sucks.. But I will still use directx in adobe audition, where they are not used in real-time so the lateny doesnt matter

All good bro.
Just wanted to spread the knowledge
Also, a workable solution is to get a DirectX wrapper to VST/AU, then you can work with them in Cubase / Logic.
