Cubase 8 worth the upgrade?

I'm currently using Cubase 5 and have a pretty good workflow in Cubase. But I feel it is becoming a bit outdated in terms of pitch and time stretch algorithms, as well as the flexibility in the audio fades, etc.. Minor issues, but they are the things that annoy me the most

So I'd like to know if you feel you got a better workflow and better sounds after upgrading or did you just get a prettier interface?

I'm a student so I have to spend my money wisely and I can figure out wether to upgrade Cubase or if I'd rather spend it on some cool hardware?

I might add that I don't use a lot of VST instruments. Most of my sounds are made with my Virus, so I work with audio most of the time.

Hi, and thank you for your quick reply! I am familiar with the thread you are referring to. I must admit I didn't read all 6 pages thoroughly. So I looked once more and yeah they say a lot of good things about cubase 8.

But maybe I need to refrase my question to: Did anyone spend their entire saving on Cubase 8 and regretted afterwards?? Maybe felt that the money would have been better spent on a new synth or whatever?

@Dypden

To be honest, I think that the new features help, there's some serious enhancements to the workflow, like the "bounce in place", being able to import tracks from other sessions, there's some minor improvements to the editors and so forth. You should watch their videos, the ones that describe the features on steinberg's channel in youtube, maybe even take a look at the studio sessions (future music and steinberg) to see how some pros make use of the new features to see if you think they'll mean a lot to you.

It's the kind of question that no one can really answer for you. So it raises another question: are you not happy with the one you've got? What is it that you'd like to see improved? Why does version 8 appeal to you? This are much more important questions to answer then if anyone here that's bought it does eventually regret it. People look at things with completely different expectations.

I personally think you can't go wrong. But don't just take my word for it (or anyone else's for that matter), go and dig it a bit further. This videos I told you about (with future music) are fun to watch and they surely show tons of different ways to go about making music in a vast range of styles. So this may help you make up your mind.

Cheers

i went to c8 because my 'try before buy' c5 was crashing all the time and f@@@up my computer. in essence c8 is in the way i am using it, same same as c5.

i would, when c5 was working fine, and being on a tight budget, not have upgraded. as a matter of fact, for me sx3 was good enough.

but i am very happy with c8.           http://soundcloud.com/vipal

You're absolutely right frisbeehead! I've spent some time checking out some of the videos and I've even learned some new things in C5 haha
I did not know about the Media Bay, which has the sample-audition feature I like about Studio One! And C8 even implemented it in the right side of the arrangement window, which makes it even easier to use!
And the Render In Place feature looks killer as well.. So they are big plusses, which absolutely are tempting me to upgrade

@Vipal, I am having some ASIO overload problems in C5.. Was this the same problem you had? and did it go away after upgrading? I've read that since C7, Steinberg has implemented some kind of ASIO enhancement thing (can't remember what they called it).

yes also a lot of that. it is so old that you have good chance of problems.

c8 works almost flawless, today i had omnisphere stuck, but after unload and reload of the instrument it was ok again. c8 is cool.
