Anyone know if there is any version of Cubase available for Linux?

hi, there's no linux version of cubase :)

but there's a thing called "Win4Lin" - it runs the win9x in a jail under linux, so u need
a good audio recording interface supported under linux (DeltaXX can be such thing - it's supported ) and then you simply can run win32 apps under linux.
i mailed the company that wrote win4lin abd asked them  how good is their sound support. it was yestreday, so they didn't answer yet.

but don't think that cubase will stop crashing...

besides maybe you want to check out "Quasimodo"
project - Virtual Nord Modular with lots of stuff, native linux.

if u wanna more details ... u know what to do.

bom.

Hellu...

Yeah, I read about the Win4Lin at www.linux.org, but it seems awfully resource-demanding...
Then it would be better to only install Win98(2:nd Ed.?) and Cubase in one computer for musical applications only...
But, it's kind of against my philospophy of using any MS-related stuffs... ;-)

then go for Quasimodo, or MuSE [kinda cubase under linux]
i've seen some specs about this quasimodo ....it will pass all the musicians to linux.
(PC or Mac users)

bomski.
n.b. i don't have m$ products in my computer ... maybe a few fonts for hebrew.

yes, linux is very stable as you can compile any programs (in opensource available) to your hardware, what makes it as stable as possible.

yes linux is very useful in things like administrating networks, having a platform for coding etc.

no linux is not yet a gaming mashine, and its not yet a multimedia box.

if you want to make professional music, you must use window$ or mac.

check this topic again in 3 - 5 years when linux becomes more multimedial.

cheers
pj

p.s. but if you anyway want to use cubase, logic audio etc. on linux, try the follow emulator and / or virtual mashines:

-wine
-win4lin
-vmware
-bochs

if Trance is based upon "The Power of Source"
Linux is based upon "The Power of Open Source"

:-)
guys, none of you still haven't checked Quasimodo.
you should. you really should ... imagine "Nord Modular" as a VSTi, multitymbra, polyphonic etc. in a suite for midi/audio work ...
it's via CVS only, but it's already got so many features, while still pre-alpha. when it's alpha it will be available via FTP.

stay tuned :) and get involved in coding/gui design (knobs/faders needed, Zahi Keshet etc.)

sure quasimodo has its features and it will be very nice (if the coder doesnt fuck up)... however compared with the current offer of win sound products... linux is not useful for making pro tunes.

alot of soundcards are supported under linux but afaik there is still no asio driver. so alot of high quality soundcards cannot be used under linux.

but to make sure one thing... linux will rule the world! its time will come.

cheers

there is no need in ASIO on a system with fast enough performance in midi/audio.
why would i need ASIO under linux ?
