well in my opinion this SX4 looks like a really good upgrade to Cubase, compared to the SX3 upgrade this upgrade is awesome....
...30 new plugins
...4 instruments
+ all the other stuff
For 169 euro for the upgrade from SX3, thats a very good, again considering one didnt get any of that in the last upgrade for a similar price....
anyways going to get it in 2 weeks, when it gets here
will be interesting to see if anyone is going to bother to try and crack it considering how long it took H20 to do SX3 and since H20 said they aint going to do the next Cubase...
....which also means most of the people on this forum shouldnt get to amped or excited unless they plan to actually buy the product... |

Why? Cubase 4 should be compared to Sonar 6 Producer.
Keep in mind that Cubase 4 is $999 and Sonar 6 Producer is $619. Included in that are the iZotope Radius algorithms worth $400. ( http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/radius/ ) and the Kjaerhus gold channel (now VC-64) worth $200.
In a sense, Sonar 6 is nearly free.

my point was only, that even the cheaper edition of sonar has qualities the expensive edition of cubase doesn't have
of course, normally one should compare apples with apples, you're right.

how is this revelant to the release of SX4?
why not start another thread called Sonar vs SX4 and you can think about this there,... |

I think H20 have retired or been bought out anyway haven't they?!

It is relevant to anyone considering buying or upgrading to Cubase 4. People need to know the alternatives. Especially when they offer more at a lower price

i'm not worshipping sonar, nor am i a hippy hehe. i wanted to remind all those who are interested in cubase 4 to look at other products as well, to compare their features and probably choose a product giving the most for the cost.
in the end, much is about workflow and personal taste. at least, try out the sonar demo to see if it fits your style, as sonar has nice features to offer in e.g. remote controlling (midi learn for almost everything!), where cubase still has its old ugly generic remote but then, cubase got a nice media management tool, which is a great idea. you see, both have advantages and disadvantages. compare for yourself, and buy the one you like better, not the one you have always bought in the past.
i have learnt to always question past opinions, always question your current ideas and knowledge in order to see alternatives and in the end arrive at new cognitions. humans tend to see what they already think and think to know.
of course, this is just my opinion
best wishes,

Sonar really seems nice....
i will give it a third shot...
i think i got scared cause of the interface was so clutterd with stuff...
if it acts stable i will consider a switch, if i like it..
i been thinking about samplitude aswell....
though SX 3 seem to work good...
though im always open for new stuff...

You can change the layout in Sonar 6: http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Custom.asp

Yeah Sonar does seem tempting the problem is the time already invested in learning & getting familiar with all the features in Cubase..
Is Sonar really difficult to get into?
