Some people say that between 30% & 40% of the application are wrapped in the script
protection. And we probably could get a performance gain of 50% without the protection!!

A bit of clarification on the terms: Hacking doesn't mean networking specificaly. It just means a quick and smart improvement in technology. That can be software, hardware or just pure theory. Hacking does not mean removing security from commercialy available software or hardware. It can be anything. It can be someone hacking their own code/hardware, someone elses's public code/hardware or code/hardware that is available withing a company or , basicly, anything.

Hacking, in contrast to cracking, is non malicious. It is just an improvement. Remember that these terms come from a time when the general public knew nothing about the internet or software in general.

Cracking means that it is malicious. Cracking comercial software, cracking phone systems, cracking security systems etc ... So H2O are crackers, not hackers and they usuualy use tools that are publicly available like decompilers, debuggers etc. The difference is the intent, not the method or the object of the hack/crack.

Unfortunately the ignorant press bastardised the terms in the late 90's and gave the hackers (the legitimate people) a bad name.

WAVELOGIX: Indeed, BEFORE you release. If you enjoy using any piece of software, wether it be music applications, games, tools, anything, you should pay for it. You are still using stuff that other people spent alot of time to develope. They can't help it if you are not talented enough to release anything. If you use it, you should pay for it.

you're very right, ok, but, since h20 or whoever else managed to remove the stupid dongle thingy, well than they are Hackers again, not just the bestard crackers!

recently i bought a piece with a cubase and wavelab bundled, they're not demo, since all the options avail are really available but are restricted, just a few, compared with the 'pro' versions... and no dongles are necessary!

uccpd: You are right: The methods are often the same. I like to keep the distinction between the terms based on the intent. I am a bit old school in this reguard so I see the term "hacking" as a compliment and "cracking" as a negative term.

UNdertow -- well, if one isint talented enough to release anything using cracked cubase / logic .. then why the fuck should he even bother buying it ... specially when these softwares cost around 400 - 800 USD ... or whatever the price u .....

u are not wrong when you say ,that one should pay for whatever he is using .... but here were are discussing about artists who have released music and many more users on this forum , who are in the process of becoming future artists and its just a word of adivce , that once u released some music , make owing a legit copy of the sequencer that you use your no. 1 priority .... !

and what the heck , you got money ...... buy it even before you can release ....

respect .. chandan !

I absolutly agree. If u got the money buy as much as u can. And if u get money from acting and releasing u should take the biggest parts of that money to buy the stuff u use and still havn't bought.

Cubase LE which comes bundled with hardware is a kind of limited SX1 (same as Cubase SE which runs without dongle). If there were a demo of SX 3, the crackers could compare the code to the original version and see where the copy protection is hidden.
