hey guys
how do u crop in ableton...you know in cubase it has the scissors which after drawing in a bar you an cut it up into 16th notes automatically instead of sitting there coloring in 32 notes..it just does it for you when you select the quantize value....
please let me know where that feature is in ableton
thanks guys

u mean just cutting audio files or midi events ?
There's no "scissor" tool in ableton (i dunno why the f*ck). Just click on the bar u want to cut and press apple+E (or Ctrl+E if on PC).

hi Saii,
I think you cannot crop in the same way that in cubase, it's a point I dislike too... I've found some workarounds :
- in live 7 you can easily slice a clip through the right click menu. Live creates a new track with a simpler plugin including the sliced audio.
- you can drag-drop a clip to a "Simpler" or sampler plugin and then crop your sample, but you have to create a new sequence for it (it's fast)
- you can use an external editor that you can call inside live.
- use the volume automation and change the start point in the clip to virtualy move your sample inside the clip.
There must be other ways to work with it but that's what i know and use. |

thanks guys for the replies but i was refering to MIDI patterns....
lets say i want to make an arpegiattor manually; i want to be able to draw 3 long midi notes(like 4 bars long for example) then slice them or crop them to 16th notes so i can start deleting the ones i dont need to make an arrpegiator. which is kind of the opposite of what u can do on live (draw the 16th notes one at a time)
im looking for the way to do it the fastest way
thanks guys

hahah ok guys no one is understandin what i mean exactly..
im talkin about the scissor looking button in cubase (CROP) in live...
lets say in ableton live u selct a midi clip, right lcick on it selct "2 bars" then u click on middle C ONCE and u get a full 2 bars of 1 note.
what i want to do after that is make that ONE note into 1/16th square pieces so i can start deleteing the ones that i dont need instead of coloring in the ones i do need...
i hope someone sort of understood this PLEASE!
lol
thanks for the effort guys,
bash

Fastest Way I use is - Double click an empty spot (where u want the note) in normal mode, then on the second click dont let go, and u can stretch the length until u let go. |
