hi!

I consider getting this machine..
Can anybody say something bad about it, or KORG, or their service, or something ?

I don't want to marry a bad company

It has the same dsp core as the microKorg, and it does sound quite nice. Quite minimalistic, but still versatile.

However, at least with the microKorg the MIDI sync is quite bad. I don't think the MS2K is any better. I had trouble in using arps, they were out of sync all the time. Even when playing on the internal keyboard. And single notes had jitter, 16th note bassline was wobbly compared to microQ, for example (timing not oscillator sync issue). For pads and leads it's ok (and bass sounds that do not need to be 'tight')

Personally I wouldn't buy it unless I had change to test it for a while.

I have no hands-on experience with the MS2000B but I own a MS2000R since a few weeks and I absolutely LOVE it so far! I found it to be very versatile and it has contributed a lot to my creativity. It fits my needs perfectly and I have managed to bring out some nice basses, leads, pads and FX with it. I cannot comment upon the arp issue though as I have yet not experimented enough with it.

What is the difference between MS2000B and MS2000(R)? Is MS2000B just a new developed version of the old MS2000 series (looks like it on the Korg page since MS2000B is not 'archived')? If so, what has been changed/updated/developed? It seems to be pretty much the same engine as in MS2000(R) but with a slightly different design. I just got home from work so I am a bit too tired now to go through the specifications for the MS2000B to spot out differences between that one and the MS2000(R).

texmex, this is a MS2000B, which is "generation B". I think they've done some work to eliminate the issues you're talking about during software upgrades...
what system have you used ?
have you found out this to be a "known issue" ?

as to what's the diff:
Acc. to the specs, no difference, I think the main fuzz is the arpeggios sync problems, which are resolved with OS upgrade. I wonder if there really are any other differences.

Cheerz.

its an ok synth. had mine for about a year but ive hardly used it, mainly because i find vst's much less hassle than real synths. the times i have used it i got some good results and its quite a nice fx unit too

I still keep wondering how a NEW unit for 700-800 $ (incl. VAT, incl. shipment) turns into 4900 shekels in Israel.

I start to think I won't buy any equipment via Israeli suppliers...

www.google.com

type in the amount, and add to it: "ILS to USD"

google converts.

e.g. to convert 800 $ into sheqels, type into google search:
800 USD to ILS

I see...

the same thing happens in Japan though - like how does a $2900 Virus TI, become 390,000 yen

disturbing to say the least...

the daleks, it is not so much, since 2900$ is ~360000 yen.
whatever you ship it over it is more expensive to send to Japan, than to USA.
1 reason: it is a long distance.
[germany->east coast] < [germany -> japan]
2. reason: each shipment to Japan is smaller, so it costs more per unit.

thus the increase.

I haven't used the MS2000B so I can't comment on that. It has been years since I used MS2000 and even then I just played it with a little. But as the MicroKorg is practically the same machine, I assumed that the sync issue is the same in MS2K.

The only way is to give it a test.

i have a ms2000R - don't think its a B though. its a good unit - probably don't use it as much as i should. great for making random sweeping oddness and the arp on it is good (imo). not noticed a timing issue.
i would defo test it before you buy to make sure its what you want

personally i don't find the layout as intuitive or creatively enabling as some of its rivals. i've had a few hours with a friend's one and i didn't leave thinking 'wow - i MUST have that synth'.

but it does pack quite a punch for the price.

which layout is the most intuitive in your opinion ?
