hi all,

this might sound like a very stupid post (coz it is kinda stupid). I read somewhere in this forum that people generally start off finding a good tune and then build their drums / bass from there, go back start on an intro and so on....

my question is if i start off with the bass / drums & then try to add a good lead (which is what i normally do), am i restricting my lead to what sounds good with the basic track i have in place??? let's say i don't get easily convinced about the lead and try hard to get a tune that sounds best with what i already have in place (the percussion) am i still restricting myself...

to cut a long story short, should "more" prominence be given to the lead (ie., start off with the lead) or is it that it really doesn't matter (as GMS says No Rules)....????

also please don't post the obvious answer that all sounds are equally important...that's why i've put "more" in quotes......plur           Interviewer: "So Frank, you have long hair. Does that make you a woman?"
Frank Zappa: "You have a wooden leg. Does that make you a table?"

Well if you start with some sound then all the next sounds should be somehow close to the previous one to make a connection but as you said no rules.

Anyway when you start the track with the bassline then you put yourself in a frame in my opinion.

Personally i like to start with some interesting sound and then after i made kinda story i'm adding a bass to fit the idea(deep, fast whatever)

After all the creativity is not stoping but it might decrease if you restrict yourself into a bassline loop.

well, kick & bass are this music! if you`ll pull them out it won`t be trance.
all parts must fit the kick & bass but this not means you cant start writing the track on 1 phrase of kickbass and while writing you can change it to a whole differnt one.

if you make full on like GMS said no rules so no rules.(what you ask??)

if you making techno or progressive there is construction ways(normas) you must obey them.

about starting - i am starting with kick and bass but i am definitely not making fulll on.
