Get Vanguard and learn what the knobs do. When you understand, you'll realize you can do this in pretyy much every ("powerfull") VSTi.
A little tip:use the filter frequency knob adn set an appropriate resonance, and you can get wonders by distorting (high compression, bit reduction, overdrive, saturation, distort, etc but not all at once) the resulting sound - make it scream!
