I think the best way to start is to get fruity loops and look a bit around & start experimenting...

Reaktor is not from propellerheads, it is from Native Instruments. And for sure is reaktor not an easy prog to learn basics IMO.
Reason is nice, but the incompatiblity of use of vst makes not good to learn baics of modern dsp work.
Peace

hey dudes we should always tell the newbee a simple advice, instead of telling him to go the reaktor and reason route, which ofcourse would be very tough for him at the moment...
Headyatail , dude I think you should first try to tinker with various programs like Orion, Fruity and acid, etc ... and learn the basics of sequencing and the use of all controls, and effects and then move on to synths. learn to tinker with samples first...
I know its quite tough for a newbee to pikup speed, but this way , you will surely learn fast. U may also start with the prog called as Rebirth, as recommended by Psylopath. and ofcourse learn more using this very forum... you will learn and get the 'hard to get' info...

Visit the music store or conduct research on line. Do not get "gear crazy" - one piece of software can take months to learn well. Read Computer Music, Digital Music Maker, or others in your spare time.
Take tutorials where you can get them. Build a sample library suitable to the type of music you want to make.
Very hard to do this alone - you must use whatever resources you can find. Reason is fun to start with, however if you know you are going to get serious, I would start with a more capable sequencer and then build your VSTi's and plug-ins to suit your genre.
Start experimenting with loops right away. In 6 months you will be surprised at what you can do if you stay with it. Good Luck.

Wise words.
The more I learn, the less equipment/gear I use.
I used to use a ton of softsynths and effects, none of which I knew very well. Nowadays I use only a few synths and a few effects, but because I know them well I get a LOT out of them and it sounds much better.
Take the time to learn a piece of gear before moving on, it will save you a lot of time in the long run. |

eJay anyone???
it was my first music program when I was 9 brings back old memories... Tried to use it again but its difficult to use something as restricting when you're used to complete control...
I think you should go for Reason of Fruity... they are relatively complex, but it is DEFINITELY worth the effort
