there's many options on how to start off with a track whats your stages ant ahead preperations? etc.

let me go first:
i always start with finding the right kick i play and tweak alot and test new ones until i'm setesfied then i move on to bassline [which seems a very sensetive issue for a lot here].
i do think that the bass is a crucial elemnt in a track but its very important for me to feel comftrebale with the bass. if i'am thinking about it i work alot on the bass somtiems i love it more jumpy sometimes very dark' another thing i love to do is to play a bit with the velo. to keep it more dynamic. again it should be unique from .
my next stage is to work on the pads .
i create at list 4 or 5 pads i do this because i want to take a littel from each pattern and combiens it into one main pad. i do so few more tims to reach serval main pads which will lead the main idea of the track.
then i move tawards the part i realy love: drums, snars.hats and so on...
i think those things provide the rythem and how you move. me , for example, realy put alot of thought on the drums. in every time i listen to music and noticing a good drums make me wanna dance! i love the brazilian , african and orientl drums... its a very, how to put it, very happy crazinn .

in brifly those my stages hope you will post yours here

I got no stages, it's can be anything-

But mostly i never start a track with a Kick(it's limiting me to specific energy- i prefer the musical flow, adding layers of sounds one by one)

Anyway here's my tip, after you know what you want put the basic elements in solo - eg: BD + Bass + CHH + OHH and keep them sound good,

it's the root of the track- if it will sound good everything will be much more easier to fit inside-

I think a nice way of putting it, is using the paradigmatic and syntagmatic way of thinking about a song, at least that's how I do it. First I start with bass, kick followed by drums then some efx then leads until you have a big climax with too much sound going on at the same time (paradigmatic). When you feel comfortable about your sounds and efx, you start with the syntagmatic part: building the song. You work towards your climax. The good part of working this way is that when you are working on the syntagmatic part, you get new ideas for sounds and leads...and most of the time the final result will be different than what you first thought it would be. So, for me, this way of working is the most stimulating for creativity.

I with bandarlog!
I create layers of sounds until I got a private world of sounds that create the atmosphere of the track, I check what goes with what and than I decied how I want to start the track and I start telling the story, adding leads and creatin the stracture..

I also start with the drums, but also with a simple tension-release motif.

Usually I'll make a simple 8 bar loop of 4/4 kick, maybe with a little flair at the end.

And then the most important part that influences the rest of the rhythm: I pick one of two types of rhythms - the kind that is high energy or the kind that is low energy. To me these are the two kinds of rhythms, although there are an infinite varation of each (it has to do with where the groove is, if it's early in the loop it's a low-energy rhythm, near the end of the loop it's a high energy rhythm). I will spend HOURS on this part as it pretty much dictates the rest of the track.

After that initial groove I embellish a little bit with other percussion work, come up with a full 'drum kit'.

Then I find a cool lead, something with a sound that grabs me, and start searching for a 2-note pair.

For me a song is all about contrast, and my favorite contrasts are 2-notes - tension and resolution. So while I'm bouncing in my chair to the drums I bang different notes on my keyboard until I come up with a really good pair - this pair of notes sets the entire harmonic mood of the track. I usually envision the big drop of the track, where the snares are building and there's a sweeping noise peaking out and one note (the tension note) just keeps hitting faster and faster until the drop comes and the resolution note comes in. That's how I find a good pair.

At this point the track is done and the rest is details: I have the rhythm section, and I have the harmony section. All other rhythmic elements will 'fit' with that initial groove, and all other notes will 'fit' with the first 2.

Granted, I still have to learn how to ARRANGE all of it (shameless plug - please see my post about arrangement and share tips, I'm frustrated! ), but that's how I come up with tracks these days.

Hope someone finds that interesting - keep the thread going! =3
