Make your own kicks, your own basslines, your own leads, pads, whathaveyou, from init patches. That's the easiest way I can think of, as its harder (yet not impossible, The Prodigy did it) to have a signature sound, using samples.
Peace out.

Yeah like Compact records, Utopia and Hommega some years ago that had all of their artists sound the same... some even said the tracks were produced just by a few of those guys hehe
Notice how SPUN recs is changing their "signature sound" to a more solid and serious sound that is a change I like.
Own sound has to do with your own process of writing tracks and stuff you like and don't like to do... using same elements again and again like your own language you know maybe certain progressions, intervals, rhythms or the overall mood of your music will have it's own sound.
I think the "signature sound" can also be intentionally created. This is how pop music works right? producers design how this or that artist should sound selecting a sound palette and defining music style or at least its direction.
I do believe this should take a lot of experience in many genres... even in psytrance to be able to decide "ok, i will sound like this from now on", and still be able to be creative and evolve is quite a challenge. |

offcourse it s intentionaly created from the artist! it may give more luck to release on a specific label that and/or artists copying/getting influenced by other artists they like, music and production wise resulting in the same sound . |

...and this is why so much of the psytrance made these days sounds the same, and impossible to tell which artist made it. And it's boring.

^^^^^ Yup, it's depressing. I want to be able to hear a track and know "Artist" made this, not that it is a "full on" or "darkpsy" or "insert supposed subgenre" track, etc. As I want the music I make to have my distinct sounds in it, while of course being good. A lot of compilations as of recent are hard to tell which artist make which, cause they all do the same thing. A lot of it not so great of same thing (repetition, not definition). And the crowd can tell (when I DJ it) I'm usually stuck DJ'ing many tracks from 08-09 (what happened) ~ (Not that there is anything wrong with DJ'ing older tracks but it is discouraging to find less and less fresh 'gems') Ya kno?
