I would say: Powercore for reverbs and hi-end fx. UAD-1 for vintage compression and -eq and Scope for synths.

I have both the Powercore and the UAD-1 and i'm really happy with both. If i would be forced to choose however, i would probably choose the Powercore because of the excellent reverbs.

I've got the Pulsar and use the Sonic Timeworks Compressor, EQ and Reverb and they are excellent.
It's about $500 for the pack though, and without it the basic FX on the pulsar is not so good.

But the synths is awsome, and thats what i use the card mostly for.
It seems to be by far the largest assortment of plugs available for scope though, and if you spend some money there is both plenty of great FX and synths to get for it.

yes boobytrip seems to have the right idea..

you can't go past the TC reverbs, chorus, EQ's etc... and the multiband dynamics like masterX3 , X5 and they have just bought out some new one which is modelled off the system 6000 mastering hardware unit... plenty of extras available for powercore.. (sony EQ's etc...)

but the UAD really excells with the vintage emulations of valve comps/limiters...

the powercore comes with a vintage valve limiter emulation but im not so impressed with it (for sure better than VST only though)

i have heard the difference described as the powercore being more 'digital' and precise... whereas the UAD more 'analog' and warm...

don't know about the pulsar effects really... but someone said the pulsar was better for synths over the powercore... but if you have the virus|powercore i think this is the best synth you will find on any platform (unless you already own the hardware ?)

but the pulsar (& scope) are soundcards as well... whereas the others are only DSP cards...

It would be fantastic if the powercore firewire (or the new compact) came with audio I/O but i read on the TC website that TC have no plans to give the powercore I/O (which is a shame as it would be great for live with a laptop)...

the other thing with the powercore is that it uses the same DSP chips as most hardware effects/virtual analog synths and the same chips as the Protools TDM DSP farms... which is why it was so easy to port the virus over from a hardware to software, and the TC plugins are EXACTLY the same as the TDM ones... so in the future it is possible that pretty much any hardware unit be it a synth or effects can be ported over to powercore quite easily...

i have heard some of hte others use graphics DSP chips like the ones on graphics cards so it is harder for 3rd parties to make plugins for these boards...

Natty, you are absolutely right about the Virus | Powercore. It's absolutely a killer-synth. It's sound is amazing and is a lot easier to edit and work with then the original Virus. Tssss... how could i forget: it's the main reason why i would prefer the Powercore over the UAD-1.

Am I the only one that find the virus a bit overused though?
Thats about as unexiting it can get to me anyway, but great if you want to sound like everyone else.

I for sure wouldn't prefer a virus over the Zarg Dark Star for example, and sure not over the pulsar modular with the flexor package.
The Minimax and Pro-one should be great as well, but i still haven't had my hands (mouse) on those.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

Spindrift: Nope, i totally agree that the Virus is overused. That's why i use it in combination with Native Instruments' Reaktor 4. Imho the modular synths offer the opportunity to make TRULY unique sounds. On the other hand, the Virus is overused for a reason: you can make some great sounds with it

You make me really curious about this modular synth for the Scope platform by the way... i think i'll drop by the musicstore soon and ask for a demo.

I do like the sound of the virus as well, and think it's for sure one of the best sounding VA's.
But it's very typical in it's sound and very recognisable.

I love modulars as well, and the pulsar have some great modules.
The stepsequencers is really cool tools, and like a said a few times, the adern flexor package give you some of the most outstanding envelopes/filters/oscillators i have ever heard in any synth.
Of course it's also great with the intergration of the modular into the mixing environment so you can send signals as you whish in and out from it with great ease.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)
