Hi,
I know that creamware pulsar DSP card is somehow an all in one system, but I also read, that there is or was a way to use it's plugins as VST in appz like cubase SX.
Is that the case? And does it work?
I mean, I know that creamware scopeFX has the "XTC mode" to integrate it's plugins as VST in cubase etc.
But do the other cards, pulsar offer that too?
Any experiences?

Thank you,
I knew about the XTC mode for scopefx ... so its for all cards, thats nice.
After tweaking it works, or will it always be unstable.. ?
I wil check that forum.
What confuses me is.. that I everywhere only see scope, but many people talk of "pulsar"

They used to have the Pulsar software for the lower end cards and Scope software for the high end cards, but now all cards are called Scope and run the Scope Fusion Platform.
I always heard bad things about XTC mode and haven't bothered to try it.
Seems to me like a waste of all the nice advantages you get with the scope routing capabilities, and the mixer in scope beats any sequencer I tried in terms of audio quality.

xtc mode works the only thing is that u need to export your mix down in realtime, coz pulsar dsps work only in realtime.
also when u in xtc mode u lose the routing capabilities coz u have to close scope.
befor u get pulsar i suggest u test it in your pc, coz when i bought my amd dualcore, the pulsar started to freeze the system, so i had to get rid of it.
creamware support was useless.
anyway i highly not recomand creamware card i know alot of producers who had problems with them. if you looking for dsp power then try the tc-powercore or uad. |

i had great expirience with Luna Card.
synths work great with scope routing
awsome sounding synths for sure , too bad i had only 30 days demo's
without this synths i cant see whats better in this card other then most simple m-audio (prolly the convertors)

for the price of a tc powercore you can get a scope proffesional.
the powercore will have some nice fx... while the scope pro will have:
routing, mixers, endless amount of fx, endless amount of synths, modular system....
its true, support from cw isn't great, and they have struggeled financialy... but they have just been bought by a new company and the future looks bright.
still, powercore-uad-wavesthingie - none of them compare with a fully loaded scope system in terms of features or quality.

Scope is a bit picky with how the machine is built sometimes.
To me the best approach is to build the machine around what setup you like to use and not the other way around.
What motherboard and CPU you use doesn't matter a lot for the end result, but what DSP hardware and software you use does.

Thank you very very much for sharing your experiences.
I work with cubase 4 and already have a UAD-1 and a Liquidmix (which is likely but not sure to stay).
I love the DSP solutions but would love one for synths. The others provide me with FXs.
The scope stuff and the inputs outputs do not interest me a bit, I want to keep it simple within cubase, and I have a RME audiointerface, it's just the DSP power that is interesting for me.
Powercore is not on my list, since I like the UAD more, and the Virus Powercore is not interesting, since I have a hardware Virus..
I just saw some very cheap second hand creamware stuff around and wondered if that would be a good thing to add some DSP based synths..
But what I hear here, and in the forum, I have to be lucky to make it run with my system (especially since I have other DSPs)
So if I get the chance to try, I will...

to subconsciousmind: it sounds like you are considering to put a pulsar card in a pci lock thats still free, so just combine it with your current pc-set up, like you did with uad.
theoretically you can. but.. forget it. it will be a big mess.
if you get a cheap 2nd hand pulsarcard, realize you need it in a seperate computer. with adat you can route it back into your main pc/mac. |

@subconsciousmind
It could be a nice solution to buy a pulsar card, but i would wait a bit longer and buy a Nord Modular or something similar. Then you still get a DSP based synth, in which you can build all the stuff you want, you wouldn't have any latency, you can take it away from the computer, you get a load of knobs and keys, it will keep it's value longer in case you want to get rid of it and it looks neat too. Or am i missing something ?

IMO you are...what about:
1) Low latency digital integration with you sequencer with 64 channels in floating point precision.
2) 100's of great sounding synths and fx, as well as 100's of modular modules.
2) Very good sounding mixer with many high quality effects available.
3) Integrated work environment.
No need to stretch around in the studio to reach for knobs here and there...same controller that you use for your sequencer and VST's can be assigned to a knob on your scope device with a mouse click.
Easily route audio in and out between sequencer and devices for sidechaining or wild modular effects.
4) Adern Flexor...you will not find as tight envelopes and oscillators in any synth what I know....what about 1 sample attack? On top of that loads of interesting modules for really far out experiments.
Do you have the ability in the Nord to convert audio to MIDI in realtime or converting control signals to MIDI?
5) Open for 3rd party development.
6) A lot more bang for the buck...get a controller box and a scope pro card and you have a lot more DSP, more modules and more devices as well as some money left to get some of the nice 3rd party software.
