Hi!
I can get Rme card (used) for the same price as the luna 2 (new)
RME is known from its quality, low latency and so on.
And the Luna 2 is known also for its low latency but also those software synths, sampler software and so on..
I can decide wich to choose. i just wonder is the quality the same in these too.. same bit and so on??
My last question: The luna 2 has 3 sharcs, how many softsynth and effetcs can you have at the same time with 3 sharcs?

Hi! I don't know the luna card but i worked with a RME Multiface and it's a good card that allows you to reach a high level of quality and work facilities.
Price/quality relation is quiet fine. Don't forgeth you can do good stuff with this one.
Cheers...

Luna is a good sound card but the option to load soft synth is not like in pulsar...
You cannot load so much and it changes from synth to synth .
i suggest u to start with a luna and have the option to grow some day and add a pulsar card.
the quality is good at RME and also at Luna but they sounds a little bit different as i figured...
Im using Pulsar 2 and Luna together crossed and im pretty pleased by them

I had both an RME Hammerfall and a Luna2. I've just sold the RME and am getting a Pulsar 2 to complement the Luna.
Luna is killer but 3 DSPs is not a lot. You can get about two voices of minimax OR pro one (the only creamware synths I have) plus the mixer and some effects in Scope Fusion Platform (SFP) mode. Sound quality of the Luna is excellent, but then so is the RME. Creamware is quite a bit more tricky to set up than the RME because you can completely configure your routing within SFP. I find SFP amazing because I love its flexibility but I know some ppl don't like it. If you want to just plug-in a soundcard and go, Luna is probably *not* the way to go. The cards alos offer XTC mode and here you can use creamware synths/fx like ordinary VSTis. However latency can be a bit of a problem as sound has to go thru the PCI bus to the card and back. However, most hosts are working towards full Plugin Delay Compensation so this won't be a problem for too much longer. Also, the cards can be set to quite low latencies anyway and there are other tricks as well.
It's difficult to compare other features (like number of ins and outs, etc) directly as you don't say which RME card you can get nor do you give any details about the rest of your setup.
But I can say that the primary reason to get creamware is the fantastic synth plugins. While there are not as many as there are VSTis, Creamware synths sound quite a bit better, generally speaking. Minimax is a far more authentic moog emulation than Moog Modular V and Pro One kicks P53's arse.
There is an excellent review of SFP in July's issue of Sound on Sound. Also, check out www.planetz.com/forums for LOADS of info on creamware. |
