I have been having some arguments with few producers that cut off their basslines up to 100HZ.....

I really think that it is just too much to cut.....

Is this a new tendency, because I strongly believe that you leave your bass sound skinny
and may produce over stress if your kick is around 100hz too.

Let me know.           www.myspace.com/enertopiapsy

SOUNDS FUKED, ive been tought to Hipass at 40hz and lopass @8000hz . let the Filter envelopes control the rest.

Urs N12 Eq, compression. M/S EQ and thas it

the the bass is widened (mono) it usally leaves room for the kick for me anyways.

An artists (not to mention names atm)....that mentioned "Logic Bomb" as, they have recommended them to cut off up to 100HZ the bass sound, because clubs dont even reproduce below that!!! that's crazy. I don't believe Logic Bomb would say something like that.

I say it depends on the character, i never used to do that but my last track i did i hp:ed at like 90Hz to keep the punch so it´s very individual, or atleast NOT a crazy thing to do           Demand recognition for the Armenian genocide 1915

90hz is not 100hz.....but that guy uses as a RULE because "Logic Bomb" mentioned that. well, if you cut off 100hz, you will have a track with a skinny body, not only that, if it goes to a compilation, most of the producers don't cut up to 100HZ, so the rest of the tracks will sound full, and that one that's cut up to 100HZ will sound skinny.
By the way "He" produces
Progressive....even worst.

Kick does not have below 100hz either...both summing 100-125hz and nothing below, man, all I can say, is that I really dont like this type of mixing.          www.myspace.com/enertopiapsy

Only ugly sleezy fullon can get away with a HP at 100hz

Depends on your kick though. If you have a long deep kick, you can pull it off I guess. Wouldn't be my cup of tea...           http://www.soundcloud.com/bandarlog

I mean common we all have ears...
its a case by case thing and there are many parameters involved...

For example like vegetal say it depends on the character firstly of the generator/synth
The minimoog can be very bass heavy and so i guess the juno 106 and other old analog synths, so in some cases you have to cut more. and the story about cutting is a story of its own..

so no mather were you cut you still have to use your ears and make a blanced mix... I dont care were you guys cut your bass as long as there is bass...trends comes and goes and there are soo many different styles in psytrance...

what more to say

I am with Vegetal on that one. I had a track once that I cut at 110hz, worked like a charm, other times40 is almost more than enough. But cutoff 100hz as a rule of thumb:? No way!           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

the last music i heard from logic bomb was their album sonic algebra, and it was over suby, alot of sub freq, i dont think they used a hp filter even once in this album
so its kinda hard for me to believe that logic bomb gave that advice.
anyway if you use a 6db HP filter up to 100hz it doesn't kill the low freq completely, but if someone need to cut up to 100hz why not use a low shelf instead?
also i think that an advice like that "cut all basslines up to 100hz" is bull, if the mix needs it do it if not dont, u cant make a law like that

Maybe they were taking the piss?
"Oh mister superstar producer, tell me how to make my tunes l33t like yours?"
"That's easy little person, simply hi-pass the bass at 100Hz, frequencies below that aren't illegal but they damn well should be." <hyuk hyuk hyuk>

It's certainly a temptation I've felt after being asked the same question for the 20th time! Luckily though I've resisted so far.
