I usually don't like to contribute any negativity on this board (there is enough of that already ) but I felt like crying out when I recently purchased Discodelic...
What the hell happened? Is this some kind of sick joke? How can anyone who IMO has released some of the most intelligent, crazy, wall bouncing, spinnin' n' scratchin' trance change over the past year so radically his style?!? Frankly I want my money back, I've never been so disappointed by an artist seeing as not too long ago, he was rocking my world with "Stupid Play" and now this...
Ok I'll stop this rant since I probably won't have many supporters but seriously, I'm disappointed by this new wave of clubbification some of our most talented artists have been converted to
Thank god we have Painkiller to take the reins, although he has some awful big shoes to fill

new album is out on cpu's label - nutek records. is definately a more commercial album. i like it but if you expected something along the old aggressive cpu style, dont look at this album. this album is a step towards a more full on sound in my opinion, further than the direction seen in 'close your eyes' and 'dark matter', which were pretty well balanced with cheese and power factors. that being said i think the album doesnt have the same balance and at times is more 'fluffy'. not what i expected but its still pretty good with great production. i liked the collaberation of cpu and painkiller on it, 'compression'.

@ squirm , Right brotha , CPu's old style was aggressive and hardder.
As I had got the hint of his style change in V.A "sky divers" when I heard tht track BY our own "close your eyes" ..But I think his previous style was best, unique and has a physical impact on the body dat it hits ...
Well in due respect to his new style, will listen to fluffs and some fresh tunes by Dr sammyyy (also painkiller) ..well Sammy I am ur FAN no matter how fluffy ur musik is khe kheee

I also had the same experience... huge fan of CPU since "Laptop Orgy", "Thinking Machines", etc... up to "Stupid Play"
This album has more fun moments but mostly seems like it is just going thru the motions (like other things on his mind, running a label/business maybe?) or in search of a club anthem.
Seems like most artist create tunes when they have some trouble or challenge in their life, and now CPU is past that stage, his music reflects that. It definitely is moving to almost an "uplifting house" hybrid type sound fused with psytrance. Definitely unique but not too interesting for those of us looking for music with "something to prove" |

so yeah,to confirm the previous post,mr Samy changed his style in "Discodelic" indeed...some people are dissapointed and some (like me) definitely not,i even think that its one of the best albums in 2006.
I also like old agressive CPU style but this was a very pleasent change for me...and notice that album is very colorfull, there are some slower trax like Discodelic and Music, then there are a little bit harder like Compressor,I Lost My Brain In Tokyo, then we have a true morning gem (Morning Drop duh ) and groovy killers like Animal and Eclipsed....so again I say, very colorfull album and it only proves how huge the Samy's talent really is.
waiting for Synergy album...

I have to say song 5 and 9 are awesome, but its easy to be thrown off by the first few tunes
anyways i still think CPU is the author of the best psytrance song ever made

Ok to me the older CPU was much better also. Now I don´t find anything fresh, inovating, it´s too fluffy in my opinion the new "Discodelic"
