Which is more important for running projects with multiple VST's and tracks. I generally use something like 20 different tracks and wish to incorporate some VST's. For this use, should I pay more attention to the CPU power or simply the amount of RAM i have installed? Thanx

They're both equally important, though i don't think its really useful to have more than 2GB of ram (correct me if i'm wrong)           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

If you use a lot of samples then RAM would be better. Atmosphere for example, a sample based VST uses huge chunks.

I use VST's mainly and was forced to bounce on my old PC (3ghz Pentium4 1GB) after 10 or so open at once with effects.

Got new Core2Duo, still only 1GB... It's totally transformed the way I work. Bouncing is optional, you want 40 VST's, effects, eq, automation... easy.

RAM is cheap as chips, get a gig minimum - processor is the most important thing in the system next to the sound card.

@tomos

i say it again add 256mb ram in ur super turbo core 2 duo and bouncing will be an essential work in the first 2 vsti!

but a good cpu/ram combo is the best for optimum performance

I have a x2 4400 with 1 gig of RAM, and I have to essentially TRY to max out the CPU. Put PSP Nitro as an insert FX on every channel, etc.

You'll be fine.

RAM and CPU are both excellent DJs!

But I prefer CPU. Long live core2duo!!

Come on, 256 is awfully little. That's not a reasonable comparison.
