hello guys ,
im in a fix !
suddenly since the past 2 days , when im playing my projects in Cubase Sx 2.2.0.39 , the performance meter in SX [ F12 ] , suddenly starts spiking constantly , which causes the audio to crackle and i have to quit Cubase and lauch it again to be able to work properly ....
i mosstly bounce all the VSti , so i know ,its not an overload problems ....
how ever , if the cpu usage is 30 % , suddenly its starts to spike and reach 100 , 90 ,30 , 100, 90 , 30 and so on ....
any guys know , if this is some Mother fuckin Virus or what the hell is it ... ?
anybosy faced some problems like this earlier .. ?
pls post , thank you ...

hi WAVELOGIX, did you install/use any new plugin that you didn't use before?
it might be a denormalization problem, there is a thread going on about that here in the forum.
good luck! |

hi
check for irq conflicts, make sure your hard drives are in udma mode (unless you got s-ata drives), search your computer for spyware/trojans/viruses, reduce processes that are running...
just shooting blanks

If you're using Battery as sampler, be sure that the MIDI being sent to it is not triggering a sample, that's been set to "loop", multiple times in a short session. That can cause the CPU to spike, seems like some kind of memory leak, I don't know.. Just an experience of mine..

2 questions:
Does that happen usually in the breakdowns when the kick and bass go off?
Do you have a Pentium 4 processor? |

yes P4 2.8ghz HT ...
1. no i dint install any new plugins
2. it happens anytime . no matter how many channels are playing ...
3. somehow , i concluded its a MOFO Virus , that keeps spiking the CpU .... thus , now i decided to install a seperate Windows on my Audio Drive and never connect to the internet through it ...
btw , i have 2 HDD .... one 20 gb and one 40 gb .... its it possible for the virus to 'jump' drives ?
or its just going to keep screwing the windows installed on drive C [ 20 gb one ] ... ?
thank you everyone for helping though ..
respect .. chandan ! |

hi WAVELOGIX, be aware that you still can get viruses from running the first (older) windows installation and connecting to the net.

ok, then it might be something else but that cpu spiking can occure with P4s because of the denormalisation. I don't remember what it exactly does but somehow involved to the way the p4 handles data and if that it's the problem it basically can't be fixed, though it can be handled with certain methods.
Like I said I don't remember the exact problem and AFAIK there is no cure for that problem but in the www.soundonsound.com forums there is talk about that problem (I had that same back when I used P4 cpu) so maybe you should check that forum also.

alt+ctrl+del, task manager
go to processes
when it spikes, look what uses the cpu other than cubase
that's where to put the blame!
if it's cubase itself, probably something with the asio driver. check the buffers, maybe it got changed somehow.
antivirus - www.grisoft.com , get the free one
better than all thoe nav/mcaffe/kaspersky stuff, and it's free

i went to the task manager .... when the graph shows the cpu spiking , no other process takes up the cpu usage , but still it keeps spiking ....
and how could have the CPu Denormalization error come into play all of a sudden ... ?? |
