hi i use my laptop pentium 4 3 ghz 512 ram with an echo indigo dj soundcard to produce music, only with software. when i format and do a fresh install, everything works like a charm. but i also use this computer for internet , so i have to use panda internet security and spyware doctor. i also work with video software like pinnacle studio pro and resolume vj. I know that these applications suck cpu performance but i really want to know which are the ones that are making me have trouble with cubase performance and if there is a way to avoid this trouble,,, no internet is not really a choice for me

Nothing should make a conflict with Cubase, some of these applications are running at background so you can remove then from background processes, Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services . Find applications and disable them or shutdown. Anyway i would two different OS for different needs, one with all needed for internet and other for music production with all not needed processes disabled.

I seriously recommend having a dual boot, one for music, & one for the rest of your work. I freed up over 100 MB of RAM from windows turning off services I didn't need, and the simplicity of seperating the two means lots less headaches.           Keep The Faith,

only active applications drain your memory and cpu power. for internet, i use nod32 antivirus and zonealarm firewall, and i am pretty much content with my performance in cubase. if you are so concerned about it (with a 3 ghz cpu?), disconnect from the internet and disable as many resident applications as you can - most of this can be done by checking the system tray.           http://myspace.com/voxproject
