Any general music questions such as this are often best left to searching for answers via google. Maybe you wish to discuss use of counterpoint in electronic music/psy?           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

its not easy but you can for example make one motif with a simple note progression and then create a melody line in another beat and key to go with that...

Listen to a preview track i have on my myspace, its called Sweety... there you have counterpoint after the cheesy portamento lead...

My tips is to experiment...
But you can start with the circle of fifths...

if you track is going in A and you have motifs in Am scale you can try and write a melody line i C going to C# and then D# and then making some nice figure on the end...

about the beat, just so there are spaces in between.. for the motif to breath through...
but honestly im just give some very simple example and i have very little knowledge in counterpoint and the whole subject... i just create mostly what i think sounds good and try and have fun...

But do read the link Ascension posted... it will give a better idea, im just taking examples for the track im working on
