Behind the Stockholm-based and aptly named ambiant duo Couchlock stands Michael K and Simon Heath from the already reputed Krusseldorf project, who have convincingly collaborated with Behind Blue Eyes on a recent track released on the set 8 compilation.
“Stockholm city diesel” skilfully plays with the vocabulary of trip-hop : the guitar alludes to rather “flamenco sketches” atmospheres, while the jazzy synth chords are delicate and serve up a well-orchestrated, heart-felt sound. The very light snare and kick infuse enough fuel to make you forget that the whole piece is immersed, and comfortably numbed, in the warmth of vinyl crackling. Sweet as...
“Progress” seems to set its sights on the atmosphere of a Wim Wenders road movie, developing a melancholic tonality and discreet melody. The arrangements are very elaborate, ranging from the initial vibrato of a guitar-like chord, to the ever-changing bassline, to the gentle rattles of sweet percussions and the sparse delayed synth. This oozes with musical quality and inspired elegance.
Bootom line:
Quality-laden ambiant music. Strongly recommended!
