Why don't you ask him? He goes by Bilbo Bagginz on cubase.net, and he's a very friendly guy.

i think he uses the Virus a lot... at least he did a couple of years ago, not sure about today. And he is 'sponsored' by Native Instruments so I guess that gives another clue

Hi Slyman,
well I am happy to share the info, but I don't actually have a recording of that I can listen to...

If you post a clip, I will tell you...

Cheers,
Bill

Hello mate,
well, yes and no.

Yes in that an original Novation basstation is crawling all over that first Cosmosis album Cosmoslogy...

and

no in that I flogged it soon after that.

Incidentally half of the tracks on the Cosmology album were made on:

1. a PC running cubase 1.2 (MIDI only) + Turtle beach 4 output sampling card.

2. a Roland JD990 Rompler

3. Novation Basstation

4. A blagged Juno 106 owned by a mate of mine who played in a 70's disco band and eventually wanted it back - which was a disaster...

All mixed down in a Mackie 1202

After Jez and I had played a few gigs and got some cash from the singles, we treated ourselves to an Akai sampler and a Behringer 24 channel desk.

When we got the Akai into the studio (8 megs memory) we just took it out the box plugged it in and just stared at it for ages going WOW!

cheers,
Bill

Holy mother of god, I was about to cheekily ask for your Virus B patches thinking that there'd be no way you'd let others have them and go to your site and there they are for download. Wow! Thanks for this.

Out of curiousity are you at all interested in getting the Virus TI when it comes out?

I say... what a thoroughly fantastic website!

This gem is brilliant, btw:

Quote:

I think that perhaps one of the pitfalls of MIDI can be, and I have certainly experienced this, is that when the need to make critical and sometimes tough creative decisions at every stage of the recording process is removed, one gains the dubious ability to postpone all those decisions to some nebulous stage in future (the mix). Often the result is that one is left with the almost impossible task of managing a huge amount of resources and musical/sonic possibilities somewhere around the time when it should be time to just mix the sounds, which is a very demanding task in itself. Essentially this method encourages procrastination -deferring decisions to a later time - especially on some of the tougher creative choices...

Oddly enough, it was when I finally started doing 'one-shot' effects in Cubase, that I couldn't undo/tweak/procrastinate about, that my tracks started moving along. I had to resign myself that nothing will ever be perfect, and to just keep going.

Great advice!
