I was wondering if any of you guys know the setup for that very tight and light synth bass like cosmo and furious uses .. I know they use cronox 2 vst but I cant figure out how to set it up to make it sound like that. |

I probably don't know what I'm doing, but I've never got even a half decent bass from VB-1... |

Probably.
I get really mad basslines from Sylenth1
But ES1 and ESM can kiss my ass, i don't even.
Thin and flubby, or long and wobbly with fuzzy cutoff. Ew.
I guess the same goes for you and VB-1, as it looks pretty damn simple, just like ESM.

I said I like it dirty, not muddy. |

Maybe this could call "Beginner-Mode", but if you (or anyone else) working on Cubase, take a look at this :
http://fileover.net/30258213/
(Very) little & easy Cubase 5.5.3 projekt with VB1
Some Perc-Samples inside taken from : G-Sonique Psytrance Drums - Free Demo Samples
Two Freeware Plugs are also inside the Zip.
But its not Cosmo style or something else...
Anyway, best wishes

Yep. I can do good with Sylenth, or Sytrus/Harmor, and some others.
It seems the sound of the filter has a lot to do with it.

very tight and light.... its nothing special their bass..is just very well done to the ears.... u can do with any vst that s proper to do a bassline....
the important thing about their bass is that they use very quick BPM so if u want to keep ur bass tight u ll need to sample the note... dont think u ll get a desired result without samplin the bass in a very quick bpm...
´
obviously make sure u do something fat in the vst first...(fatter than u would neet in real ) so when u sample it u can fine adjust with the envelope of the sampler.... some people also use gate to do that fine adjustment in the bass but i m not experienced with gates...

hey man , yeah it's a personal taste what kind of vst for the basslines you using ! sometimes use the vb1 ( not really mad about it ) but instead i use alien 303 you can tweek your sound how you want and it creates fat sounds ! sylenth 1 jam,jam also nice ! also i advice you to get the fabfilter pro-c to sidechain you bass and kick ! BOOOOM a tight and fat bass and a stable kick ( don't forget to eq your bass and kick ! I was always searching for a good bass it toke a while but experiment allot ! and try to think out of the box ! |

First of all, you should make cronox 2 mono. Just reduce the voice number to 1. Then use the analogue oscilator only, turn the mix 100% left. Make sure the oscilator has "track" on, put symmetry to full. No spread. No keyboard tracking on filter either. Adjust your amp envelope first, just some decay, and very slight release times. Then adjust the attack a bit, add some sustain also if you want it to sound a bit fuller. Then move to the filter. No resonance at all. Put some decay first on the envelope, adjust depth - that's how much the filter will open from where it already is, it should be pretty much closed btw, add depth and decay time to taste. No fx, no mod. That's it. Adjust stuff to taste. Some minor tweaks can make a big change. Find the sweet spots. |

I think it's better to sample the notes with the right lenght instead of using the sampler's envelopes and filters. I never tried those on Kontakt though, but it didn't sound that good to me, the tut. And synths like the cronox 2 can make very good sounding bass on their own, much better then that on this video imo. The important thing here is picking a synth that locks the phase, so every note is phase locked. |

VB-1> pick a higher note, if you wanna go fast or 300bpm ! >both levers to the left , low damp/low shape (or use any decent VST)> EQ(leave some high end>Quadfuzz>Record a bar>you don't need a sampler, just use the audio>if you need different notes, just pitch-shift the sample

Soo much bla bla bla.. and shit chat about plugins
basslines its not about plugins, its about how they are mixed...
great producers mix them properly, normal people dont...
so when everyone claim a plugin doesnt work for making basslines its not true... its only your lack of skill
you will never make pro-basslines without decent material or knoledge... not even with a preset, because its a matter of KNOLEDGE and ear the stuff properly
i use zebra, with my very own made patch, i found zebra to be nice to add punch and weight to bassline, it also gives me alot of controle with integrated fx, i barely need to use inserts on the mixer, because the origin signal is allready very acurate in low end...
