Hi Dudes :)

i have some tracks on beatport, itunes etc... but the issue here is, i gave the tracks for free for some labels, and others had a verbal agreement for the royalties... and guess what... never see royalties ... I know we are in the trance scene and i don´t expect to much... but would be cool to see some .... we are the artists right??

so the question is how i can do to avoid this ? i guess we need a license to get the royalties... im right?

thanks in advance . cheers           thoughts become things

well, i'd say the first step is to contact the label and ask for a sales statement on your tracks. if they won't respond to you, then i'd start assuming that they are trying to fuck you over. maybe write to beatport and tell them that this label has stolen your music and you can prove it with stem files for the track. you could also try registering with ASCAP or BMI or something like that which collects royalties for artists and see if they can do anything about it.

i don't know for sure what to do tho, hopefully someone here can give you better advice. next time definitely get them to sign a contract, even if you just have to write something up yourself briefly. but even with a contract i imagine it would be hard to enforce this stuff, since artists and labels are often in different countries and other logistical problems.

if they do end up ignoring you, i strongly recommend that you tell everyone the name of the label so we can spread the word and boycott them. then make a post on forums, facebook, twitter, soundcloud, etc to the effect of "[name of label] stole this track from me. don't buy, download for free here: [link]"          http://soundcloud.com/rob-vector
