Hi all

I"m starting up my own website and I want to give the option of people to make donations if they so choose to.

My dilemma is that I want to put my dj mix demos up on the site, but if somebody makes a donation would this be a breach of copyright regarding the free dj mix downloads?

Cheers

yes,
just only give your mix for free is a breach of copyright laws,

Creatives Commons music is ok, if you give it for free,

dj mixes , with music from other artists, are only for pleasure to share or promotion.,,

but ask for donation for pay the hosting, this is fair i think,

ok so let me get this right...

if I mix music from original Cd's, and put them up as free demo's on my site I am ok?

OR can I only ever use free music under the Creative commons license for my online demos?

if I use only creative commons are donations still ok?

Also once the site is officaly runninf would be happy ot do anything to help promote lables...

depends whether they would be happy being associated with a site that also promotes and reviews extreme metal (Death and Black metal).

Cheers

Mike

Due to the insanity of the music industry pretty much anything you do is illegal. "Public performance," for instance. But no one really cares unless there is a lot of money changing hands. Since you aren't a big shot I doubt anyone will bat an eyelash.

You have, however, misinterpreted what the Creative Commons is all about. The standard licence requires attribution (give credit), no remixing without authorization, and no commercial gain. In this sense it is no different than music under standard copyright. As before, no one really cares, and pretty much any artist would be happy to have the exposure.

in a commercial way..people got charged cause they just used a 4 note pattern by a very big song..but as mentioned before..as long as you dont produce the next madonna hit or something similar it wont be a problem.. i suggest..hehe

so dont take this for real..decide yourself....           -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

underground is underground...but i even thought about several days befor..and i decided not ever to use samples in any commercial way..since music bizz is searching for money all around..so why should one take that risk anyway..           -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

cheers.. well sampling is not what I do or would do... the idea is basically just to do a continous unbroken mix of tunes i have alread paid for so I can get some of my dj demos easily distributed... I gather it's now my choice whether to do it or not, and I doubt any trance labels really have the money to chase people, but if I can get their music out to the wider community doubt the'd complain much anywho...           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

u cannot get a copyright on a dj set, its like asking to get a copyright on arranging books in a certain way in a library. Unless you have tweaked the tracks...but even to tweak them you need copyright clearance from the original artist or label...when u buy a cd you do not buy rights to commercialize...i mean the next thing you will say you bought Paul Coehlo's The Alchemist and tore a few pages and then bought Ron Suskind's The Way of the World and tore a few pages from there and then bought Deepak Chopra's Why is God Laughing and tore a few more pages and bound them together....and you want copyright that.?           When death comes to your doorstep, make sure you are alive

Just set up the donation button to for people who like the SITE itself rather than the actual mixes.

Yeahhh think I'm going to run the site on my own cash for now, if it gets popular I might look at advertising for funding, and even the I'd charge very little, enough to pay the monthly hosting fee           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

Don't worry too much about the copyright issues. But if you do make any money it would be nice of you of course to put some of it back into the artists account

if a dj is making money with my music on the net,
i will be very pissed off,,

its allready a joke on parties,
so many dj playing and earning money without buying original cds... or worse, playing only p2p mp3

what the fuck is this trend to have a donation option on your web site, if you dont have nothing to offer "wich came from you",, what the point ?

pay for your web site, spend some money in promotion, that the way to start ,,

the attitude is very lame this days,
respect the artists please or culture will be rubish in a few years....

PS:
anyway you can post a proper web page for free this days
blogspot for the infos and soundcloud for the files, why pay for hosting dj mixes ?

Dude chill

I have the web site for two main reasons:

I want to learn about coding and how to use a web site.

I want to be able to post my reviews of my PURCHASED cd collection without having to conform to other peoples guidelines

I have the donation thing as an option. You don't have to use it any more than you'd give your spare change to any thing else, it's up to each person!

I figured that seeing as my site has unlimited space, I could put my dj demo's of music I have full paid for withou being constricted by the file limits on sendspace et al.

I am sorry for upsetting you, but grow some balls and accept that some people ask questions to ensure theyarndoing the right thing, I'm not out to take advantage of anyone.

On the contrary I have offered certain organizations in thisand the heavy metal scene free advertising for a few months

Chill out dude, I'm seriously not out to rip anyone off.

Hence my question, because I wanted to ensure such a thing wouldn't even accidentally happen!           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

Ps I have worked out in the last 10 year I have spent an average of $3000 a year on CDs... $30,000... 90% of which was on psy trance and associated downtempo genres, so piss off mate. I have never once downaloaded an illegal mp3.
