One of my friends asked me what the main difference was between people copying or downloading music for free and the artists that moan about it not authorising or paying for the samples that they use - I found that one quite hard to answer!! |

...imo this isn t comparable...
the artist takes "only" some fragments, while the donwload of a track is a hole work itself...
--> donwloading movies equal downloading music...

The authorised sample length is 4 seconds if I remember well.
Beyond, the author of the source (movie, other music, etc) should (must) be forstalled, contacted.
BTW this is true for France, I don't know if it is an international law or not.

In reality I would imagine that very few, if any, samples are ever authorised or officallly licensed by anyone except those acts on major labels (which counts out most if not all psy trance acts)- and I don't just mean bits of film dialogue.
(I can remember talking to Justin from New Model Army who had absolutely no knowledge of the NMA sample in the GMS remix of Re-load) |
