It's a shame that this is what you think of when someone is trying to present an idea to increase creativity and try to give people another reason to buy cds.

the reason the people don´t buy cd's cause they have empty pockt's, if you talk about multimedia cd's with videoclips wallpaper's & other stuff i agree with you but now "painting"!!?? i don't see anyone buy the cd cause of that...

People don't buy cds because they can download them, not because they're broke. People were broke before you could download cds online and they bought cds then. Sure more people might buy cds if they had money, but trying to give people more incentive to buy a cd isn't a bad thing imo.
I don't see why you have to belittle this idea. Giving some useful feedback would be a better use of time. What's the difference between coloring a cd cover and creating any type of deco? Sorry for thinking up new ideas, maybe distributors should just stay the path that is obviously failing....

This is the ONLY reason about it. Anything else is bullshit.
When i was young, i was really broke and even with no money, no job and anything else, i was used to buy my favorite music. At least one cd per month, or a year... Doesnt matter. In that time, mp3 and music share wasnt popular as it is today...
New ideas are always good, but i think cds to paint is not the best idea...

true ... but the reason for people to buy CDs has changed as well.
cd's to fill in the colours... sounds a little bit mindnumbing... sorry.
what people are looking for now:
- limited editions
- personalization
- display pieces
fulfill all three and you got a winner.

anther cool idea is to have cds with sex toys for people like endless spamoia.covers for painting is a very cool idea independently of the marketing associated.....what was asked was not the potential for selling......
people like endless spamoia gets cds for adults with pathetic dark trance or minimal trendy imagery......

A unique color job would count as a display piece maybe?
In the end, I just think it would be cool to have a uv painted cd

Overall, even if this idea sucks, it's a billion times better than all the other topics where people are just complaining about stuff and not doing anything about it...
It's easier to complain than it is to create and I say fuck complaining .

This is truly an idea that I think would only fly in the Psytrance scene. 
More often than not, when people buy a CD they want the entire package to have a "full completeness" about it. If anybody here has any CD anthologies, or other excellently and carefully designed and packaged CD's in their collections, you should know what I mean. There is something truly wonderful about a CD that has been designed and packaged so perfectly; even if it isn't exactly unique compared to the other copies out there.
Though personally I don't think it's a bad idea. I would think of it as somewhat unique. But to be honest, if I got a CD like that I would probably leave it blank for the sake of having the thing in its "original condition." Maybe it's just the former Star Wars collector in me.

Very good points Kahn, thanks for sharing. Yeah, like I said, I'm not one to keep all my cds sitting at home so maybe I'm the minority there. I know some people who buy cds, rip them and only carry around the copies.
Even so, if the cover on the case was full color and the cd itself was black and white I don't think that would deter a lot of people from buying it.

do not agree.......if you enter a specialized experimental/avantgarde music store,you will be amazed by the quantity and originality of cd weird/odd artworks/packages.
