hello there, anyone knows if there's out there any software that turns a wav file into midi?
sounds crazy i know but i'm not asking about complicated audio files or converting to the exact note of the sound and that stuff...just writting down a midi file where each sound of the wav is represented as a note (any note) in the piano roll.
For instance i want to record live percussion and then convert the file into midi and put on some samples to play instead of my shitty perc. sound ...wouldn't it be nice ? |

Logic can do that since many years.
It is of course not so precise, but on clear monophonic material it does an ok job, and for rythms it wourks totally fine.
You can also take the groove of an audio and apply to your track and vice versa.
I remember there was a spearate piece of software that might work better, but can't remember what is was called.

ProTools and Sonar do it to. I think DP and Samplitude do too but I'm not entirely sure.
In Sonar it is the function "Extract timing".
