Hey guys, I'm sure this has been covered to some degree on here but my question is fairly specific so I felt posting a new topic might get me a more direct response because this issue is driving me up the walls!

I was discussing with my teacher that I have a Kurzweil K2000 and a microKORG that I would like to start using in my Ableton tracks because they are just collecting dust as is. I really love the sounds they produce and I want to capture those sounds but I want to control them with MIDI notes in Ableton since I'm not such a pianist myself. My teacher told me it was possible with a quarter to eighth inch plug and an M-Audio Uno. So I went out and bought those and asked the guy at Guitar Center to help me set it up but he didn't know Live too well and he just vaguely explained it to me. So today I took in my microKORG, the Uno and the 1/4 to 1/8 cord in to class and asked my teacher to show me in person. Well, he said it should be an easy 5-10 min thing but he couldn't figure it out. He felt that there was something that wasn't set up properly INSIDE of the microKORG. From the info I've been given, this should be possible with the gear I have listed but so far I can't get either synth to work the way people have described to me.

Does anybody have any experience doing this? Anybody know the microKORG well enough to tell me what I'm doing wrong? To be honest, my main goal here is to use the k2000, not the microKORG but ultimately I want to use both of them, otherwise they are just glorified paperweights.

Thanks guys, much love,

Ampersand.

with the microkorg u can use the USB ....

so u connect the microkorg in ur usb then in ableton live preferences midi/sync u are supposed to active the ins/outs of the microkorg that if is connected thru usb in ur computer it ll show up right in there...

so u open a new midi channel in ur project and there u ll choose in the ins/out preferences of the channel MIDI TO ... ur microkorg... the channel u put 1.... or put another if u have choosen inside microkorg another channel....

then u ll be sendin midi to microkorg... then u create a new audio channel.... and there u setup this to receive audio from the input channel of ur soundcard where the microkorg output channel is connected thro the audio cable...

with the k2000 the difference s that u ll be usin midi cables and not use so u ll be usin the midi device from ur audio card that im supposin that u have....

so in the midi/sync of ur preferences in ableton... ur audio card midi ins/outs devices must be active... and obviously ur synth must be connected in the audio card via 2 midi cables... ( one for sendin and other for receivin)

so now in the midi channel that u created u ll choose MIDI TO ( ur audio drive )

and then u create a new audio channel receivin audio from the input channel from ur audio card that the cables are connected...

and with the kurzweil u ll have to use midi cables...

so u are supposed to have an audio card with midi input and output u conn

Hey man, thanks for the reply.

I actually do not have an audio interface, that's the whole reason I'm trying to do this, as a quick fix for that since I don't have the cash for one right now. I've been told by a few people that I can do it with this setup but I haven't had success for whatever reason, probably because I don't fully know what I'm doing lol. I mean I get the theory of it but it's not working for some reason.

Anyway, my microKORG doesn't have USB. Are you saying I should use the Uno to connect from the MIDI in and out on the microKORG to the USB in my computer? If so, that's what I'm doing, and then I have a regular 1/4 inch cable into a 1/8 cable into my line in jack on my computer.

I'm trying to use my computer's soundcard for it. This should work with the Uno if I understand correctly. I can successfully record in sound off my synths but I can't control them via MIDI despite the fact that I have MIDI to USB on both in and out on the KORG.

Same with the K2000. Neither of them have USB, the new version of microKORG may have it but mine is like 5 or 6 years old.

Thanks for your input. Hopefully I cleared up my explanation a little.
