Probably a super noob question but didn't find anything in the search.

Is it possible in Cubase to control an effects (insert) plug via Midi?

For a gater plugin (like GetaBlitchJR) on an audio channel, would like to write Midi notes to control the pattern.

Thanks in advance!

are you thinking of something similar like the midi-route option in ableton?

until now i thought that just VSTs with a midi-learn function can do this.
atm im learning ableton, and the same question you have got came to my mind^^ (also in cubase?)          www.soundcloud.com/orgytime

i haven't really explored sending note information to non-cubase effects, but if you want to write patterns for gating you can use cubase's 'midi gate' plugin. it's very good.

My guess is it's possible in Abelton.
Here's a bit on the plug that brought about the question.

Why don't you give it a shot? Its a freebie anyway.

Wondering if there's some trick to doing this in Cubase?

It depends on the plugin you want to control; you can tell if it receives MIDI either by looking in the Output list of a MIDI track to see if that plugin appears in the list, or by reading the plugin's manual.

If the plugin doesn't directly receive MIDI but receives VST automation, you can still control it via MIDI byu using the Cubase Generic Remote device.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

lets say i want to controll the pitch (waves Ultrapitch PlugIn) with a controller, how is this done in cubase?

open the plugins automations (pitch parameter)? and then route it there?

with ableton you just have to activate the midi function, klick the parameter you want and then the knob on your midicontroller.
too bad it dont save the routing...
