hey @ all
I`m sitting in front of my computer the whole night, trying to find out what controller-numbers are used for what in cubase?!?!?! I got a Cubase-Preset for my midicontroller, but the only things I can controll with it, are pan and volume for several tracks and play and pause... im really disapointed...
I just want to controll my VSTi`s with that damn conrollerkeyboard... can anyone help me, where to find the controller-assignment-data for the softsynths and in setting up that whole thing, that I can controll my softsynths... would be awsome, searched the forum too, but didnt`t find much usefull....
...but... perhaps i`m blind

thanks in advance, david....          we save the world I say...
...and am laughed at. but if we all would say, we already would have done.

yep .. this is one of the few bad points in cubase.
it would be really cool to have a "learn" function link for each vst/vsti parameters.
"even" FL which is supposed to be a "cheap" software has this feature... very useful.

so yeah .. breain hacked said it ...
got to options / device setup .. and add a generic controller.
then you can set up your controller.
good luck, its not very easy .. but its there.

abt setting up generic remote in cubase; its not that hard (if somebody tells you, like it was told to me);
1. in device set up (left part, devices) you click on midi and then click the plus (top left) and you select from the pop-up-menu generic remote (this GR comes then in this left list) then you select this GR (blue)
2. in the right screen on the top generic remote midi input/output you select your controller (usb-device, or something like this) for in (and out if you like).
3. in the right screen you go to the lower box part to devicecolumn, then you select first line and under device you select the thing you want to control (for example taupro) probably by clicking on VST-mixer there comes a new pop-up of instruments/parts you can control.
4. then in same lower boxpart you select under channel/category what aspect of f.e. taupro you want to tweak with this first fader/knob, like cutoff (all the parameters you can automate on taupro you can see here).
5.then you go to the box above it. select the first line (blue) you turn the knob on your controller you want to use for cutoff on taupro and you push on learn there. you probably see under address a number like 16 appearing for cutoff of taupro. and also on the vst you should see the cutoff knob move.
6. repeat for fader2 for other aspects. etc3, 4 etc., untill you run out of knobs on your usb-controller or untill its enough for you.
7. click on export, and save this file where you can find it back (next time you want to tweak taupro like this you open device setup and by clicking on import and doubleclick the previous exported file you can tweak with your GR., maybe inbetween push on apply or so. hope it works for you like this. ok.

Hi David, controlling Vsti's is always a bit of a problem since they all use different cc numbers.e.g Access Virus PoCo uses 40 for the filter1 cutoff;Albino 16 and vanguard...?!?
If you don't know the controller numbers you should insert the midicontrol plugin and go stepwise from 0-127 while moving the fader.Look at the VstI when the corresponding fader or knob moves and write it down to paper.
Hope that helps a bit.

Nice greetings
Fred

Once you know how to do it it´s very easy, then spent some evening mapping your synths, i´ve done it.

the only cc I've set up in generic remote is my piano pedal for activating/deactivating record.

everything else is done via midi learn. that is if one gives up on old vst's that don't feature midi learn.

I hate to fiddle around with it while making music.           soundcloud.com/epsylohm

Is it just me or do you have to redo the controller setup for every project?           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

It's kind of neccessary if you think about it, otherwise there would be many conflicts and mis-routing if you loaded some saved controller setup into a project with several of the same instruments - how would it know which vanguard to assign something to if there are 3 open in the project?

You can set up a custom profile with your common instruments already open, then setup the generic remote and save that setup and use both every time you start a track.           http://soundcloud.com/aeon604

hm... seems that the only thing I will do in cubase soon, is loading fruityloops as plugin and then making all my music in fruityloops, just telling everyone I made it in cubase
