I was wondering, what mixer should i get for my studio.
Im currently working with a crappy 8 channel behringer with no groups and no faders...just knobs.
What console can i get in the range of up to 400$ ?
Should i Get digital or Analouge?
How important are groups?

If anybody is selling any used consoles i'll be glad if u could tell me.

Behringer is truely crap.
I recommend Digital, Mackie. But that would exceed your budget.
If you plan on using the console for Psy Trance you wouldn't need groups i think. They are good to create sub mixes for recording artists.
For example if you have 5 piece band: Singer, Bass Player, Acoustic Guitar, Drummer, Keyboard Player and you want that the Drummer will only hear the bass player, the singer wants to hear them all but himself and the final mix to be the sum of them you'll need to get mixer with groups.
You can use groups to group several channels to the same effect or several combination like that, but i for myself don't see much use for that option.
BTW check Soundcraft consoles http://www.soundcraft.com/
Especially this one:

No need to think baba, i might have oversensitive ears but when i studied sound i had the pleasure (????) to work with Eurorack MX1604A http://www.behringer.com//MX1604A/MX1604A_big.jpg in conjuction with Pro Tools 001 system and let me tell you that it totally fucked the quality of the sound.
The hiss was so noticable that it really destroyed the opportunity to enjoy the work.
When i asked what's up with the hiss, everybody told me, it's ok, it's Behringer, they suck.
And BTW a friend of mine has Behringer monitors and they are quite good, anyways the frequencies are very well separated.

Well as i c it its depends on what kind of equipment u have, what sound card u use?
digi mixers usualy best when u use alot of hardware and u'r card support spdif, adat or any other multi channel outputs
all u'r work is moving to be at this mixer and not on softwares mixers (more pro and much more dificult)
but those r way expencive

if u have 2-3 synths and sound card and u like internal mixer of u'r sequenser u dont have to spend this kind of money for mixer that u wont use much so any small analog 8-16 ch will work

and word or 2 about the groups.....
in trance producion u preety need those
not to send different mix to diferent player on stage (thats called Matrix not Groups)
groups r in use in many ways in trance
for example u want to compress bass and kick together, play 3-4 instruments with same flanger
u cant do those things with Aux sends
only with groups

bottom lime Katam think 1st how do u plan to work further then it will be more clear to u what to choose

P.S. DONT TOUCH BEHRINGER'S EQUIPMENT
Jesus didnt dance, but his beat goes on

hehe...i see there are alot of behringer lovers out there. dont worry i learned my lession, im not getting anymore behringer equipment.
Im using a Pulsar Scope, currently only with a virus but im going to add some guitar and digital drums so i guess i need groups.
i went to the store today and i saw some good mixers .....there was a soundcraft "spirit" 12 channel mixer and a 12 channel mackie but the mackie is very very expensive.

People do use Behringer but they are built at a low cost which means that shortcuts of some sort or another are unavoidable in their design or manufacture when compared to the devices they emulate.

Not to say they don't do their job - and do it well in many cases - but to some extent you get what you pay for...

the mackie is friendly interfaced , nice accurate eq , good mic preamps - at all operating very good(the only minus maybe that it doesnt have insert points on aux masters for moniotrs)
the soundcraft is cheaper but also do the work.

i will recommend
roland m-1000(650$) - with four stereo pairs of digital inputs

Peavey XR 696F (1100$) - Eight-channel,nine-band stereo main graphic EQ and more... nice thing.

Yamaha MV800(899$) - Eight mic channels, two-stereo channels, compressor and more ...
