It's not a 64 bit version of windows out yet.
I'm not shure when it should be coming, but during this year sometime someone told me.
But I'm sure that if you search a bit you should be able to find some rumours about when the release is expected.

Before that is out you can use the system but it's not until both windows and sequencer and plugins is rewritten as 64 bit applications that you will have the benefits of having a 64 bit system.
That will sure take a year or two.

So guys hehehe, u confused me instead of make me understand...

From the one hand u say that AMD is very good, from the other hand u say that it cant be use, because windows and some other applications such as plug-ins etc do not support the 64bit...
So what to do??????
Forget the amd 64bit and rethink about it in a year? Cause i want to buy pc now, not in 2 years...
So this link http://www.inta-audio.com/script/workstation.php?mode=R&cats=SYS6%20MON%20UPGSYS6SND%20UPGSYS6WIN%20UPGSYS6UQK&filtmode=AND&filtval=2
Looks great, but like u say its not yet effective because of the NOT supporting of 64....
This is what i got from your msgs....

U have to know, that sometimes, when someone talks about something, it has to take into consideration that the listener might not have the same knlowledge on the specific subject ands try to be as infrormative and explanatory he/she can...
So please try to make me see what u are talking about with simple words... Cause if i knew, i wouldnt ask

Thanx guys and I realy appreciate that u spend sometime about this matter           • Noize Conspiracy Records •

Sorry, I did not explain that well.

Basically your system will work fine using the current windows version and audio software.

In a year or two when new versions is released it will work even better           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

Totally, yeah. Wouldnt it be strange for the thousands of people sitting on 64 bits systems not getting to use their systems befor a year or so from now?

dont forget to mention that pentium will release 64bit CPUs with the release of the new windows-64bit-version ("longhorn"). the fact the AMD released a 64bit CPU before any systems support this technology is just a marketing-gag, which works pretty well indeed. but if you now want to buy a CPU for the next 2-4 years its the right decision to buy AMD64. but if you exchange your system frequently every 1-2 years its not a wise decision because the prices will fall and the quality of 64bit processors will get better when pentium is launching the new generation processors, too. (equal if pentium or amd)

Don't look forward to 64bit. For me it TOO eraly.
I use AMD too. I bought 2 "VERY QUIET" fans, and no one can provide me silence which i want.
Maybe better buy Pentium?
Expensive but quiet

Ok i got the point... Are there any software that do not support the 64 bit? So basically what am asking, is that, am I gonna face problems with any software by use the 64 bit ??? if not then is ok i guess...

BTW check this http://techreport.com/reviews/2004q1/athlon64-3400/index.x?pg=3

Now hard to find software that support 64bit

I think there is no problem with
"old" 32bit software.
But you will be "beta tester" for old software on new platform

@ CHP
I dont think there are any softsynths supporting this (yet) because there is no Windows (except the server version?) that supports this, so it is not necessary. I guess when Windows comes in 64 bit the 64bit synths will pop up like the pupils on a guy on acid =P

I also think the change to 64 bit will be quite rapid, just like it was when 32 bit windows came.
But for sure it will not be much point to install 64 bit windows direcly when it comes out, it still take quite a few months until there is enough apps working to make it worthwhile.

But still the AMD64 systems compare quite favorably to P4 running current OS and apps.

Of course results from tests vary, and some performance test will not be applicable to audio use and will be differently optimised for Intel and AMD.
Also the test that CHP posted is made with 768Mb of ram for the +3200 and +3400 systems as well as an VIA mobo.
I thought you need a pair of matched RAM chips to use them in dual channel.
But I guess those guys have a clue what they are doing, and I have misunderstood something.
It does seem like a very strange test configuration to me though.

Another test that includes the "clawhammer" AMD's with 1Mb cache and a nForce mobo with equal amounts of memory for the different CPU's properly configured to work in dual channel mode: http://anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2249&p=3

Athlon64 3400+ can only be positioned on Socket-754 motherboards, which unfortunately don't support dual-channel memory. so, u won't be able to use two identical RAM's in dual-channel mode.

CHP, my suggestion (take it for what is worth): go for Athlon64 unless you don't mind having to upgrade (change computer) every year or so. i personally always try to buy a computer that will last for at least 2 years before having to upgrade (cos upgrading is a pain in the ass and it costs!) and i think most of us are thinking the same way.

so, with Athlon64 being the option, i would go for a Socket-939 based CPU. which is 3000+ or 3200+ or 3500+ and 3800+ (i think). it is important to check that the Athlon64 you are going to buy is placed on Socket-939 mobos (u won't have problem noticing, they clearly say S939 or smth similar). u need this CPU to be able to use the Dual-Channel memory (2 x 512Mb RAM for example, which is 1Gb in dual channel).

now, u need to figure out which motherboard u gonna use. i would go for the new nForce4 based motherboards, such as ASUS A8N-E or MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum (note: spindrift is right, don't be afraid to spend money on the motherboard). it will allow you to use PCI Express video cards (generally cheaper than AGP ones), plus u get forward compatibillity with the new and faster Hard Disk drives that will come out (SATA 3Gb/s when current drives are SATA 1.5Gb/s). i don't want to confuse you, but you will remember my words (in a couple of years) when Dual-Core CPUs will be out (meaning two cpu's on the same chip), cos these motherboards will be able to 'hold' these CPUs as well. so, (in a couple of years) when Dual-Core CPUs will be the new standard, you will only have to buy a new CPU (and not change the whole computer with motherboards etc. and notice that motherboards are pretty expensive).

trust me, i am buying a new computer soon and i have given A LOT of thought into it... i hope i made sense, u can always PM me if you feel like           .
Respect is earned, not demanded...
