Hi, I need some advice as to a computer that I want to buy. I am used to working with windows, but my friend recommended this: http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?ItemPos=4&TempID=5&STRID=111524&Method=3&CategoryID=1011&BrandID=0&PriceRangeID=0&PageNum=0&DepartmentID=9&pagesize=10&SortMethod=3&SearchPhrase=&Contains=&Search_Type=SEARCH&GroupCode=nonetodaythanks

Can you please help me with my decision. If you can recommend any good windows based laptops that would be great. Thanks and sorry about the big link.

do not go for that.
its one of those things they sell to people who have no idea what they are buying. the g4 is a good computer but the powercore is something you do not need to begin with......
id go for a computer first......then get a soundcard....then get monitors....and then get a powercore if at all.

I had very good experiences with DELL inspiron laptops, very solid laptops.
But contact TC and check what PC laptops they have used for testing the box with, systems like that can be fuzzy about certain specs and it's a bummer to get parts that don't work together.

But definatly look in to getting a DSP based solution like powercore.
Thats the chepest and IMO most flexible and convenient solution for getting hardware quality sound.

The powercore compact seems like a very interesting product.
I used a PulsarII with a magma PCI expansion box with a Inspiron for many years now and been very very happy about that investment.
It sure brings you an edge in the sound you can get compared to a system using only native plugins.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

Logic 5.51
It still does the job nicely, and I would really hesitate to get a mac myself just to be able to run 7.0.
They are just so low spec for the money so I rather stick with a PC and miss out on a couple of new features in Logic.
But it is a tough choice I would think if I would get a new system today.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

I have a Nusystems laptop and can thoroughly recommend the company for its service, prices and the quality of its products. However witih this particular model something to watch out for is the placement of the firewire ports. One thing the Clevo chassis suffer from is that the FW port is generally on the front edge of the laptop, and is therefore easily dislodged in use. Andrew (my partner in Voice of Cod) has a Clevo laptop and a couple of times we've lost audio on stage because of this very problem.

He's now buying a Centrino laptop from Nusystems (with a firewire port on the back!)...           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

It looks like a nice machine for sure.
And a 17" sceen wouldn't be bad.

Would be nice with some more info on the machine.
Like what resolution the screen has and what PCMCIA controller card they have..the site don't mention it.
My magma is ver fuzzy about that unfortunally.

And a warning about DELL also....their support is truly appaling, so that's something to take into account.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)
