Heres mi issue, windows runs really well but cubase goes from 30% of cpu usage to 100%, i amde a test and bounced to audio almost all midi..so this session has 40 audio tracks, 1 midi (a1) and simple plugs like bionic delay...still the cpu goes mad. This with all my cubase stuff, i checked any background task and everything is ok apparantly. i even tried formating the dh and reinstalling windows, the issue continues.
My computer setup is the following
Asus P5WDH Deluxe
P4 3.2
3Gb ram ddr-2 667
4 Hard drives (widnows,audio..etc..)
I know i dont have an awesoem setup but not as samll to have these issues. So any idea??? im really going crazy

Is it only the cpu that goes high? Or disk also?
I work almost without midi, and my main issue is from disk. Too much audio!!! Mainly it´s the case when I have a big file from midi, chopped it to get best parts, and copy/sequence it. Doing this many times will result in A LOT of BIG files. Boucing is the answer, just be carefull to clean up the folder(as u will have some unused bounced parts). Also remove unused media from the pool...
When I was under a P4 similar to yours, I´ve always needed to be careful, as I had some issues like this(CPU jumping to 100%).

how about bouncing like sms just said not just into audio, but into larger audio blocks.
say 8 bar everything for example...
makes for an easy and accurate arrange task later on.

Try adjusting the sample size on your soundcard settings.
Also the preload amount.
Most of these options are under Options> Device Setup, in Cubase, I think.
Could be the P4 denormalise bug (google, I think there is a fix or at least some info)
Possible write cache options on the hard disk settings. Try changing the PIO Mode?
Dodgy plugin loaded at startup?
Which version of Cubase? |

There's a known issue with P4 and cubase / pro tools, they seem to be using 100% of the CPU even when there's nothing heavy in the project. This issue generates from bad communication between cubase/PT (who wants to be able to run heavy loads whenever they need to on the CPU) and the chip responsible for CPU power-saving mode (which tries to switch the CPU to low usage mode in order to generate less heat).
Try booting into the BIOS (press DEL or F10/F12 or look at the screen for the setup menu while booting) and switch off the CPU power saving mode (Intel calls it SpeedStep). a word about SAFETY, if you don't know what is BIOS and what to do in there, be very careful or ask a friend who knows, messing around with the BIOS can really screw up a PC).
Hope it'll help

Actually, SATA drives aren't really much faster than IDE, they'd just like you to believe it. A more important consideration is driver, chipset, & drive compatibility. Unfortunately, it tends to be a try it & see type of scenario.
Continue with the basic troubleshooting moto: process of elimination. I'd make a copy of the project, & then start tearing it down piece by piece, while monitoring the cpu. I'd start by turning the plugins off one at a time. Also, double check the CPU usage with taskmanager, cause who knows, maybe the meter is wrong.
PIO mode is changed in device manager, under the IDE ata controllers->primary & secondary IDE channels->advanced tab.

I raised the bifer size and work better..not as ai expected but its better..i already did the turning plug ins off one by one and some did cuased cpu load, i unistalled them.
My hard driver are on DMA mode, do u suggest changing them to PIO mode??? |

Try either mode and see if it helps.
I see you've taken the shotgun approach! If you get it resolved, put things back one by one and until the problem returns. Then you'll know for sure. Then come here and name and shame (or post solution for other users benefits) |
