Cubase's compressor has a side chain button, if you enable that then you can aux-send your channel to this new side chain bus.
if you have an older version of cubase then you must find a compressor that has sidechain "input" and do a little complicated thing with quadchannel group.

if you are just looking for a vst compressor OtiumFX Compadre Beatpuncher is nice          https://soundcloud.com/poisonritual

I think Ableton's compressor do the job right (at least for us) but if you dont happy with this i suggest you the SideKick4

Why can't you handle it? I have no experience with the pro-c but I really like the other fabfilter stuff. It is pretty easy to understand usually..           soundcloud.com/supergroover

actually i don't know where to use it, yet - i mean on which sounds is it common to sidechain?

are there any "rules" on which channel i add a compressor or sidechain?

in abletons compressor sidechain is very easy for me, cause it's only a klick

but how to sidechain by myself?
