now a noob question about sidechaining kick and bass

Why sidechain the kick with the bass so the bass compress when the kick comes, if you are using a Kbbb, so in theory there will be no bass when the kick arrives anyway? or will be parts of it?           ``We shall not cease from exploration - And the end of all our exploring - Will be to arrive where we started - And know the place for the first time.``

That depends on if the kick overlaps with the bass or not Becktrank! And even if not overlap, there may be parts of it, yes!           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

some times kicks are longer than 1/16 or you might want them longer... certainly sidechain is not a must if everything else is ok.

Okay guys, been meaning to ask this question for some time so here we go.

Daft punk, lets say Around The World for example, has bass which falls on the kick. Yet i cant sense any side chain compression in the slightest. Ive even tried transposing the midi of their basslines into my projects and adjusting the sc compressor settings to try to get it to sound like theirs.

Perhaps its not sidechain compression at all?

Cheers

around the world is definitely sidechained.. you can tell the bass ducks out while the kick is playing, though it's subtle. also the release time is really fast and the kick is a pretty 'short' sample, as opposed to in house music where the release time is timed to like an 8th note or something, so you get the off beat side chain effect.

you can also add some attack to the sidechain. this helps to keep the early transients above the kick alive while using an offbeat-focused sidechain.
