Im searching for a compressor for my basslines, and i would prefere one with external side-chain funktion, so that i can let control my bass compression with my cick signal.
now my question would b, if anyone of you uses this technic, and what compressor do you use.
i ve read the waves comp manual, and i ve found the sidechain function, but only depending on frequencies, not on external signals. is it possible to do external sidechain with the wave comp?
and my last question would be, if anyone of you uses transient-tolls on bass lines, and if so, how do you use it.

sorry, i've meant transient tool
if you have an audio signal, the very first part of the sound is called transient. this is the part, where the human ear gets the most important part of the sound-information.
with a transient tool, you can push up or lower down the attack (transient) and with a lot of these tools you also can manipulate the "sustain" of the signal.
the cool thing is now, that for example if i use it on percussions, i get very clear and powerfull percussion lines, without messing up the level in the mix.
why i was asking if anyone uses this on his bass lines is because i've tried the opposite way with a baass line (lower down the transients), and it sounded quite groovy. but in fact it wasn't perfect yet, and so i wanted to save some time and ask, if anyone of you has experienced cool results with it

Aha ! Transient tools. Like the stuff you do with compressors/gates/limiters

I use them on basslines now and then and on percussion as well. Sometimes on individual hits, sometimes on loops, but almost never on breakbeats. I try only to use transient tools when i have a problem or when i want to achieve a particular effect. Not just as an automatism.

For side-chain compression try the sidechainer and compressor in the TC Native bundle (version 3.1 at least), they're really easy to set up.

i was listening to a track i made at 144 bmp with c1 sidechain , i have noticed the release can t be enought fast or when it s enought fast it s cliping very bad,if i set it juste a bit more slow , you ll notice nothing on my monitors but loud with a good headphone you hear the groove is not as good , so i dont know how to do.

I think it could help if you adjust the input-levels to your C1 a bit. Make sure the signals aren't clipping before you apply any compression.

Then there is the eq section on the C1 sc. You can use it in 'sidechain' mode to filter the sound that is used to control the dynamics. This can be useful, for example when you use a sound with a low frequency component, like the low-sine part of your kick. If you don't filter the input, and use attack and release settings that are too fast, the compression will be driven by the low frequencies in your input signal, and this will give a blurry, distorted output.

Read all about it:

~ It's a LOT easier to set up the sidechainer and compressor that come with the TC Native bundle. ~
