Hi guys ..
I use fl studio and use the multiband copressor to compress the bass and kik together ..
I feel the multi band compressor gives a better control in not only eq in the bass and kick together but also gives it a nice clean punch.
my question is that is this alright to do as i know the guys who master do not usally like stuff which is pre compressed (or limited) as this limits thier ability in the final mastering of the track ..
also i do sometimes use compression on percussion and certain leads ..
please advice if this will hinder the final mastering process or not...

as long as you dont overdo it and dont use it on the master channel its ok i think..
leave some headroom for the mastering eng. otherwise he will not have a lot of fun..

only important u leave enough headroom for the mastering and no use of compression or limiting or stuff like that on the master channel.
many people out there working like this m8 no worrys
only important is how it sounds to you at the end. and sure that it´s still possible to work with it at the mastering.
feel free to do whatever u like as long u leave enough headroom, no compression/limit on the masterchannel and no clipping master..... imo
anyway, it´s not forbidden using compression on the masterchannel i.e. only important is to know what´s to do. and most mastering services and studios only accept this version to save more possibilities for their work. and sure to keep the effort as small as possible

It IS possible to regain dynamics when mastering a track that the artist has already compressed/limited, but it's a BIG pain in the ass, about doubles the time it takes to master a track and the result is never as good as it would be with an uncompressed mix. I had to do this to quite a few tracks when I mastered Sea of Vapors (Zenon) as many of them already had compression and limiting, but it still came out sounding ok Maybe I should charge more for mastering limited mixes...

so its not good to put a comp on bass kicks etc or on each channel .. a slightly compression?
Never used limiters so far in my funny experiments but the point of Alien Bug with limiters only for this inaudible peaks sounds so convincing me making all a bit more detailed better.
Thaought if the master is never red its ok to simply put a file of atleast -5 db for further premastering or maybe someday when personally satisfied for real mastering - someone else.
Now I'm confused again.

no he means its ok to compress on channels and even its possible to regain the dynamics if a master is overcompressed but its just not so cool..
cause mastering is either for fixing bad quality mixes or to improve enhance good mixes to a perfect master..so compressing/limiting the master channel forces the m eng. to fix it back most often instead of improving it with nice tools..

its totaly ok to do this on the kick bass group
even recomended. i use limiter there that is working only when there is bigger mess then the usual loop (then it does nothing)
i find it very usefull for mastering actualy , leaving you with more options to make the track extra loud yes leave the leads with punch and dinamic range that is greater then 2 bits
