does anyone do this to conserve cpu? or is the very idea idiotic by nature since you cannot hear what youre doing due to the fact its not in the mix but offline...

i try to save cpu through offline processing like nolightatend mentioned (first fiddling with inserts until it sounds right and then saving it as preset) or bouncing while producing - all fx except from eq - because i think its best to be able to equalize the sounds in relation to new elements until the track is finished.

i think its good if u use it smart. like said b4 about doing the sound online than proccesing it offline . it s a good way. and u could alwalys use the off line process history (cubase & nuendo users) to undo what you`ve done.
i started using it because of kicks. like when i had a kick playing 1/16 notes or 1/32 notes in a row the volume tends to jump but the compressing applied to the track was right for the rest of the time but not for that part and i didn`t want to ruin that comp. or automate it ... so i offline processed just the part i needed. its a great way to work if u do it carefully.
if u dig deep enough u just might reach the sky...
