is there a rule for that?what are the different effects you can add to the sound by adding one or the other in first.i eq and then compress but maybe i shouldn t always do that?

I used to do it that way too. First eq then compress. But now i changed it and i first compress and then eq, especially when in "mastering" process.

It just makes more sense to me since with compression some frequency detail is lost anyway.           A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life.

i always put the eq as last insert, so after the delays and everything
Cause for instance a dub delay can add the lowend you just removed.
makes more sense for me to put the eq last

It sort of depends, but most of the time I find I will EQ then compress and then EQ again. Sometimes the first EQ isnt all that necassary but I like to keep the signal sounding a certain way from start to finish.

The nature of the signal that goes into the your processors is very important on how the processed sound will sound in the end. for example compressing an overbassy sound is pretty much different than compressing some thin line.

I would prefer 'shaping' the signal before I would want to process it.

The final EQ is barely necessary after processing if you have an EQ in the begining in the first place - only if the processing has introduced some unwanted artifacts.

But anyway in the end,
if it sounds good - go for that           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

Only rule i use is that if i use a lowcut/highpass filter in the eq (or just cut some low freqs) i will put the comp after the eq. There is no reason for the comp to be trigered by some low freqencies if you cut them afterwards. That will just make the sound pump more.

The problem by putting the comp after the eq is that if you change your eq setting the compressor will compress differently, so (in some casses) you will have to alter the comp setting if you alter the eq.

It depends on what you want to do i guess (boosting/cutting/etc.). Just think of what you use the compressor for and what you use the eq for when you make your decision.

But it's always a good idea to try it both ways and hear which you like best.

as a rule -
Sound has to be eq'd after each plug in is added cos each plug in adds to the Snr.

Again, I agree wit Trip- . Eq comp Eq shud be the flow.

That sounds pretty logical, didnt think of it that way before

M'kay... but i always thought most eq's change the sound in undesirable ways too, in that they introduce downsamping errors and phase distortion. So i would think that using an eq for 'Snr' purposes will make things worse, and i don't understand how you're going to do something about the Snr with an eq.

Or did you mean that the compressor turns up the noise from the previous plugins ?
