Hello everyone,
I see a lot of tutorials around for sidechaining in cubase and nuendo, but all of them use wav samples.
Is it possible to compress using midi tracks? It's strange cause you can't insert a plugin (like waves or something) in a midi track, nor send it to a specified group track...
Also, bonus question (feel free not to anwser hehe):
WHEN is it advised to convert to wav a specified part of the music? Perhaps only the leads? Or specific parts of the percussion?
Thanks in advance

You can't compress midi tracks. You can however compress the resulting audio that your midi triggers from your VST. So put your compressor on the VST channel.
I think Colin OOOD's sidechain compression tutorial should still be floating around here somewhere, and I think he used a VST for the bass in that one, should give you a better understanding of how that works. Use the search. |

For hardware synths, you should be able to process the record enabled audio channel, you should also be getting some latency.
You generaly bounce anything that you've decided is ready and won't need anymore editing...until you decide you wanna do some more editing in the mixdown and you have to re-record the part again.

midi is not audio
asking to compress midi is like asking to compress usb (in twisted way)
its just computer messeges.
but , that messege triger synth or something that actualy got audio , so you can compress that audio result , before or after export to wav

you can compress midi !!!
it mostly affects velocity.... thats about it.
it meant to help you tame your velocity/dynamics while recording with keyboard......
if u dig deep enough u just might reach the sky...

when its done. perfect. finished your tweaks that you can do from the synth (that wont be possible later in audio - pan or volume u can do later anywayz)
also recomend to 'freeze' the synth and not delete it
if your cpu is problematic then always 'save as' after doing that so you can go back.
